Hi all Am a regular reading dad.

My son has 'picked' up a habit from nursery; I am of course assuming it is learned behaviour, rather than a developmental hiccup up because I?m a neurotic, reactionary {insert rude adjective}typ of dad.

When told not to do something - stick fingers in fire, plug sockets, lick window etc; he reacts by slapping my partner or I. We of course explain to him that this not appropriate and cajole him into apologising which he does with extreme prejudice.

I have learnt today that a child with whom he attends nursery has always exhibited this behaviour. Is it too early for a naughty chair, should I resort to locking him into a cupboard or should I storm red faced and brandishing a tub of hummus towards the mother of this child and demand that she lock him in the cupboard?
But seriously what to do?

stop explaining

say no firmly and put him down and ignore him for a minute

every time

no more explaining, cajoling at all .. firm and decisive

it's a developmental blip .. you can't blame another child for it .. that's too PFB
