My 6 month old DD keep trying to roll over in her Amby Natures Nest, but it leaves her head in a horrid position

She has got a bit of a cold which has been bothering her quite a bit at night. But when I go into her, she seems to be trying to roll over. She tips her head right back and rolls a bit, but her head then stays at what looks like a very uncomfortably extended angle.

IS this safe, should I think about putting her in her cotbed now?

Would it be worth getting in touch with Amby? Or are they likely to say everything is safe etc because they don't want to criticise their product??

Hello, don't know about whether the Amby is different as DD hasn't slept in it full time since 6 months (now 8 months) but she has taken to rolling over in her cot until her head touches the bumper and then extending her neck right back which sounds like the position you mean. It looks horrible but she seems to be sleeping quite well and is sitting/ rolling/ trying to crawl like normal so I'm assuming it isn't doing any damage.

From chats at plyagroups etc I think quite a lot of other babies of about the same age are doing this so I think it is probably just a stage and a bit easier when they have a cold. I don't think it is anything in particular to do with the Amby and that is likely to be better for her than a cot as it is a bit softer.

My 7 mo ds does this almost every night in his cot, it looks uncomfortable but he's fine and if I adjust him so he "looks" comfy he just arches straight back to where he was, so he obviously IS comfy. As long as they can breathe, and they're sleeping peacefully, leave 'em to it!

How long are you supposed to be able to use those nests for, anyway?

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 18/03/2008 09:50

Thanks for your posts

Apparently they can stay in the nest until they're a yr.

It's reassuring to hear that other babies do this and are quite happy.

I did rearrange her a few times last night, but as you say jatgb she just arches her back and ends up straight back in that position!

It does look 'wrong' though doesn't it...

My DS still sometimes sleeps like this and he is 3.7yo. Last night he had his face right up against the top of the bed. He seems to like touching the bedframe for some reason.

I scoot him down the bed a bit, sometimes he shuffles back up again.

Just to warn you, we ended up taking DS out of his Amby when he was about 8 months as he kept rolling on to his tummy and not being able to roll back over which caused us all much sleeplessness. I think 12 months is wishful thinking.

I agree with Houseofmirth - 12 months would really be pushing it with an Amby imho.
