Baby 11 started teething (yes very late) but I feel like he has several many teeth coming out all at once.

I tried and failed with the following:

  • cold carrot
  • teething toys (mainly giraffe, ring)
  • ice cubes
  • iced washcloth
-cold fruit
  • teething gels and powder
  • teething biscuit

What else is there ?

I am short on money too so if it's cheap and actually helpful would be great

Calpol?

tortiecat · 08/01/2024 20:05

Calpol was the only thing that worked for DS.

ColleenDonaghy · 08/01/2024 20:06

Ibuprofen and paracetamol. Don't be shy with them (only up to the maximum dose obviously!). Ibuprofen was better we found, can't remember what age they can have that from. Acts for longer too which helps overnight.

You wouldn't put up with toothache unmedicated, dose them up.

Anbesol helped a bit too.

Nurofen and calpol alternated, keep it up for as long as they are coming through. I think you've literally tried everything else

Somuchgoo · 08/01/2024 20:09

Calpil
Baby nurofen
Proper teething gels which contain lidocaine. Some brands are stronger than others. Ambesol liquid always used to be the strongest.

Powders and things like bonjela soothing gel are basically placebos and a waste of money. You need the behind the counter stuff*

  • Back 5+ years ago you could but the decent stuff in a supermarket. Then some idiots wrecked it for everyone by massively overdosing their babies (like using all of the time) and now you have to ask a pharmacist for it. So bonjela brought out their utterly pointless 'soothing gel' which contains no painkillers at all. Don't bother with it.
toodledo · 08/01/2024 20:10

Anbesol liquid!

Raera · 08/01/2024 20:10

At 11, I'd do whisky

GreatGateauxsby · 08/01/2024 20:10

bonjela the one in the metal tube NOT the plastic tube.

nothing else works as well.

Lavender14 · 08/01/2024 20:12

I would have used all that you've listed but when it was really tough then calpol. Often I found I could distract ds (13mths) enough during the day to get him by with the above methods but at night especially calpol was the only thing that did the trick. I just stretched it out to the 6hr mark and tried to time it so he had the best chance of sleeping through a good chunk of the night. Its tough going and ds was the same, once he started he got a lot through at once and it was was rough.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/01/2024 20:12

I am only on this thread in case anyone suggests amber necklaces. DON'T listen if they do.

That is all.

JinglePringle · 08/01/2024 20:18

For DS I got a teether which you fill with frozen fruit, veg or just ice. They hold it and chomp on it. It was brilliant because he could put it where it was hurting even as a baby it worked.

Also shed loads of pain meds.

As above amber necklaces look cute but do nothing for tooth pain.

OneAndDon3 · 08/01/2024 20:18

Anbesol

Calpol

Cold cucumber
Ice lollies

Cdoc · 08/01/2024 20:43

Baby ibuprofen! The only thing that really takes the edge off for us. We got the Boots own brand as it’s strawberry flavoured and baby seems to prefer it to the Nurofen taste!

Whatsinthebag2 · 08/01/2024 20:45

Anbesol liquid from over the counter
And Ibuprofen

Calypso321 · 02/10/2024 23:26

You need Anbesol liquid. For 6+ months and you buy it from behind the counter at the pharmacy. It’s magical stuff!! Works instantly as it is lidocaine.

AegonT · 03/10/2024 13:15

Calpol and Anbesol.

Noodlesnotstrudels · 03/10/2024 13:45

Dd1 didn't get her first tooth until nearly 13months and then got 6 in the space of the summer holidays. The only thing that really worked for her was anbesol gel during the day and ibuprofen at night. We at least got the worst of it all over and done with in a short period! 😵‍💫

JanefromLondon1 · 03/10/2024 13:55

Amnesia on a babies toothbrush. Give the part that hurting a quick brush then let them chew on it as they will naturally want to chew where the tooth is coming through.

JanefromLondon1 · 03/10/2024 13:56

Anbesol obviously not amnesia.
