How do I start potty training?

I would like to get potty training underway properly for my 3 year old but I don't really know where to start!

I have already taught him the process by showing what I do, he knows how to use his potty and will sit on it with no nappy, he's even done a little wee in it but that's as far as we have got.

He's not showing me signs of readiness at all and he wees and poos at different times every day. I'm not sure if he is ready but I think he is capable of learning.

Where do I start? I have tried letting him go nappy free and he has weed on the potty but he mostly just walks around doing tiny wees everywhere and he's not bothered about being wet. Am I missing something?

Also, we go out everyday and he is at nursery so can I do some potty time at home and then still use nappies while we are out? There's no way he could go out without a nappy on at the moment.

Sorry; I'm just a bit lost!

I've got girls, and "trained" very early by sitting on the toilet regularly and going cold turkey. I don't personally subscribe to the wait until they are ready or giving signs. So nappies away, no going back. At three I would skip the potty and go straight to toilet tbh.

I have 4 boys, I made a fuss of them picking underpants with their favourite characters, bought reward stickers and then took the nappies away during the day. All of mine used the toilet with a seat insert, they were never keen on a potty, I just took them really often for the first few days.

What we did was gradual increase the time without a nappy on days she was at home
We started at 2.5 and she didn't have a nappy on for about an hour. Lots of wees on the floor and she got upset. This was midweek on my day off
We did the same on the Saturday and Sunday. A few hits and she seemed to have more control as she wasn't weeing continuously like mid week
The following week we used a bit of TV time to get her to sit on the potty for longer. Once she was happy with 3-4 hours we offered her the choice of nappies or knickers in the mornings and after her nap. Some times she wanted the nappy other times the knickers. We were hoping to commit to knickers over Easter but she had a bug and was a bit miserable and didn't want knickers. The following bank holiday we were able to get her into knickers with only a few tears! She took longer to crack poos but she has toddler diarrhoea and allergies which means she doesn't always get a lot of notice. We have improved these a rewards jar and positive reinforcement but had to wait for her poos to be firmer
