Newborn vitamin D

I’m breastfeeding our 5 week old and he takes 4oz of formula per day too.

My first was formula fed so didn’t need vit d, but only discovered this one would need it a couple weeks ago and have only consistently started it in the last week.

This won’t have caused any damage yet, will it? I’ve read about ricketts!

He will be completely fine! Breastmilk does contain small amounts of vitamin D and formula also has it so your baby will have been getting a good amount even before you started supplementing ❤

I didn't realise this for months and my nearly 11 year old seems fine. I can hear her animatedly talking to her mates upstairs!

Similar situation here but with a 9week old.

Apparently if they have 500ml of formula a day they don’t need VitD. My combi fed baby has 400ml. It seems right on the cusp but I assume I still need to give it to her and it’s not possible to have too much? Or is it possible to have too much?!

@YellowHatt yes it is possible to have too much vitamin D. You should ask your GP or health visitor but I can imagine 400ml formula is probably giving enough

I remembered the vitamin D drops for about a fortnight with DC1. Never remembered either DC2. Both EBF so they weren't getting any from formula. Doesn't seem to have mattered.
