Baby boy pee problems?

Hi everyone,

I had a baby boy in the summer and have never seen him actually pee. He has wet nappies, and often when I remove his nappy there will be a slight trickle of urine / a few wet drops on his skin, but he’s never actually done a full pee that most baby boys do! With my first you could guarantee he’d pee every time I changed his nappy so just wondering if you all think this is normal or not?
He had a urine infection at 2 weeks old, but no other symptoms since - he’s now 4 months old. I didn’t want to bother the doctors just saying I’ve never seen him pee, but what do you all think? Have you come across this before?
Any help would be really appreciated!

@ChaosAndCrumbs just adding a tag to my reply below :)

@Lndnew so sorry you’ve been through all that, glad to hear all is hopefully well now.
Ive had my little one back to the docs today and been diagnosed with a current UTI so will need further investigations now too and daily antibiotics until any other causes (aside from the need for circumcision) are ruled out.

@Mumoftwoboys123 sorry to hear about the infection. I don't know where you are based but I would definitely push for the hospital to consider PUV as early infections and weak stream are a potential sign. Are they sending you for scans or a cystoscopy? Please come back and let us know. Like @ChaosAndCrumbs said there are lots of treatment options for these urology conditions. I hope they are going to investigate quickly. I hope there is a nice simple explanation and it gets resolved quickly but here for support and any questions. Fingers crossed op.

@Mumoftwoboys123 just to also say my DS had to be circumcised for these medical reasons and the operation and recovery ware absolutely fine

Mumoftwoboys123 · 12/01/2024 17:23

@Lndnew we’ve got an appointment with the urologist on Monday so will find out more then but will definitely mention puv them as an option!

@Mumoftwoboys123 please keep us posted. I hope the appointment is helpful and you start to get some answers soon.

ChaosAndCrumbs · 13/01/2024 08:23

@Mumoftwoboys123 Really hope all goes as smoothly as possible and hospital can investigate and explain soon. There’s definitely lots of treatment and support and specialist NHS clinics who are really good.

Lndnew · 15/01/2024 10:51

@Mumoftwoboys123 I hope your appointment goes well today.

ChaosAndCrumbs · 15/01/2024 14:59

@Mumoftwoboys123 Thinking of you today and hoping the urologist appointment goes as smoothly as possible xxx

Thank you @ChaosAndCrumbs and @Lndnew

All went smoothly today. Booked in for urgent circumcision in two weeks time once the current infection clears. Moving him into new antibiotics today as the strain of infection he has is resistant to what he’s been taking apparently.

Hes going to need general anaesthetic for the op which is worrying but I guess it’s the kindest option for him too.

@Mumoftwoboys123 really glad it all went smoothly. Are they are to do any further investigations at the time of the op or do they think that is all that is required? If so that's great news that it will be solved very quickly! My LO had the same op under general and it was very quick and straightforward and he recovered v quickly - I'm sure your DS will be the same. You need to put cream on the wound a few times a day afterwards which I found tough but honestly after just a few days it looked so much better and healed really well. I'm really glad they are treating you very quickly.

Noseyoldcow · 15/01/2024 19:36

I assume that plenty of nappy free time will be advised to help the wound heal. In which case you will find out just how far little boys can pee!

Mumoftwoboys123 · 16/01/2024 11:17

@Lndnew they think that might be all that’s required which is good. We’re under two different doctors so they did mention another scan at a later date potentially but fingers crossed the issue will be resolved.

He’s getting Christened on the 27th so I’m hoping the op doesn’t land too close to that if there’s much aftercare needed. And explaining it to my 3 year old at bathtime will be interesting - I think I’ll leave that to daddy 😂
