Tax return child benefit

Hoping someone knows the answer to this. My baby was born May 2023. I claim child benefit, DH earns very close to/just over threshold for the High Income Child Benefit charge, he has two separate employers so needs to do a tax return. Neither of us have ever had to do one before. Is the deadline January 31st this year 2024 or next year 2025?

Am I right in thinking as baby was born May 2023, the relevant tax year is April 2023-April 2024, so deadline is 31st Jan 2025?

I think it's next year. Your child was born in FY 23/24. I have just filled my tax return for FY22/23.

Next year.
The current deadline is for 22/23 (Apr-Apr).

Yours will be 23/24 which you can do anytime after April 2024 up until the deadline in Jan 2025.

The tax return due at end of January is for tax year ending April 2023. CB will not come into that and your first return including a repayment charge, if any, will be due next January ( assuming online, paper is the preceding October)

Yep you need to submit a return detailing income and child benefit received between April 23 to April 24 but you can't do this yet (obviously) and the deadline isn't until Jan 2025
