How to work 32 hour week

Hi all, I’m in need of some advice. DS starts school in September and I will be changing my 4 day working week to 5 days but I can’t work out the best way to split 32 hours over 5 days. As a side note, the school run will be a 40 minute round trip twice a day as he’s going to school in another village. I’m happy for him to go to breakfast or after school club but I don’t want him to go every day if I can avoid it.
thanks in advance for any help/suggestions

Do you want to start early or finish early? Or both but on different days?

I do 31.5 hours over 5 days. I do 9.30-4pm Monday to Wednesday in the office, then wfh on Thursdays and Fridays. Thursday hours are 9-3 and Friday is 9-5. The hours I do mean I get to take DD to school every day. Monday-Wednesday my parents collect her, Thursday I collect her (she does swimming lessons on a Thursday) and Friday she's in after school club (youngest child is at nursery which is paid until 6pm so makes no sense me finishing earlier). I could do longer days and finish earlier on other days however my commute is around 40-45 mins and I didn't want to be home any later than 5.
Have you checked what availability for breakfast club and after school club is like at the school?

Your school commute adds quite a lot to your day to be honest which makes a shorter day awkward. However, I assume it’s for a reason and you considered that.

I’d be looking at doing two longer days, so perhaps 8 - 5 on Monday and Tuesday, assuming you can get a breakfast and afterschool club place and they start early enough/run late enough.

Then three shorter days of 9:30 - 2:30. That adds up to 33 hours which allows some time for lunch breaks.

You haven't said how far away you work, but I would suggest 5.5 hours for two days a week (ie within school hours, so you drop off and pick up) and seven hours for the other three days (drop off at school, then use after school club? I don't think you could use breakfast club and not after school club too if doing seven hours, but you might be able to).

I work from home every day and if I have to go to the office is only 15 min from home.
I have him currently reserved for breakfast and afterschool club every day and will cancel the days I don’t need once I finalise my hours.
I quite like the idea of 8-5 and 930-230, that’s a brilliant option for me.
thanks so much for the replies so far

I could tell you what I want to do or what my partner would do as they are different and what would be right for you could be different again. It is something we are trying to figure out ourselves though as my daughter starts school in September

Things to think about

When do you work the most effectively? - I absolutely can't cope with mornings there is no point me signing my daughter up for breakfast club at 7.30 am. I struggle to get her to nursery for an 8.30 breakfast! I do have to do it one day a week when I'm in the office but I have 45minute commute to wake me up. I can't do this on WFH days I'm too sluggish.
My partner is great at morning but struggles later in the day. We expect that I will do the lion share of the drops offs and he will collect in the evenings so I can work some longer days

What clubs do you want to do? We are hoping that if I do a mix of long days potentially with breakfast and after school clubs I could have a day where I could finish early and do swimming or gymnastics lessons.

What about you, what chores and things for you do you want to fit into your down time. when can these happen?
