Co parenting nightmare

I moved away from DC dad around 2yrs ago so we now live 150miles away. We meet half way when he sees the DC which is every school holiday. I always thought it was my responsibility to do the driving and that he was being generous meeting half way, but I’ve since learnt there is no written law regarding this. The problem is he is now wanting a weekend or 2 in between and I just can’t afford to keep doing this and not always convenient with work etc.

when it comes to him seeing the DC, has it got to be convenient for us all or is it just the children and I should do a long shift at work and then drive a 4hr round trip for him to see the DC.

If he wants to add more time and you are OK with this can you tell him you can't afford the drive more than usual so he would need to come and get them? Or can he drive 75% of the way and you 25%? Do you think he would be willing to work with you?

Nope, he’s already told me he will drive no further then half way and will take me to court if I don’t agree to this.

It's irrelevant that there's no law one way or the other - the court looks at what is best for the children and decides accordingly. It's (literally) case by case.

I'd want to avoid court in your shoes as the court can take a dim view of the parent who moves away. Did you reach the current arrangement yourselves or is there an order in place? Would you both be open to mediation? This might come up with a third option that works for both of you?

I've always read (but only on mn) that the parent who moved from the 'family area' has to do driving?

Saggypants · 01/01/2024 17:35

You moved away. In the absence of any abuse I think you should be making an effort to facilitate your kid's relationship with their dad. Is that what the kids want?

If you really can't afford it, that's a conversation to be had, but no I think you're being a bit unreasonable if it's just about your convenience.

Stressy22 · 01/01/2024 17:38

@WhereIsBebèsChambre no this is not the case.

@Saggypants he sees them very often.

@Darkenergy we’ve done mediation. He wouldn’t agree to anything.
