Teaching / maternity / UAE

Hello,
My partner and I are considering a move to Dubai for a few years. We have a 6 month old. We are considering a second baby but not sure what the rights are out there as a teacher. For example, if I took a 2 year contract out there, moved and began working, would it be frowned upon if I got pregnant during those two years? What’s the maternity leave look like for a teacher?

thanks!

I know the laws have changed out there for non-Muslims but generally speaking I think they have issues with children outside of wedlock so you would need to look into that. Anyone I know that took up a teaching job out there and became pregnant out of wedlock got the hell out of there as quickly as possible!

We would get married if we went. So romantic I know 😂

This.

You do not want to be unmarried and pregnant there. And, yes, they would know because marital status is listed on your national ID card.

If you are offered a job, read your contract carefully. There may be penalties imposed for not completing your contract or your contract may be extended to cover your time off.

Are you considering teaching through the Ministry of Education or a private school?

I have to say I would not be risking this! There are a lot of big questions... Who will mind the baby until you go on maternity leave? Who will mind 2 kids after? You will have no family help out there. What's maternity care like in hospitals over there? Will you actually get maternity benefit? 60 days is a short time imo for maternity leave.

The risk far outweighs the benefits in my opinion. Think carefully and do a lot of research! The pay for teachers is also decreasing because so many people want to go, there isn't a need to have big wages and big perks as incentives to get people to go!

My sil was a teacher in dubai, I believe she got 3 months full pay, then another 3 months half pay. This was at one of the biggest international schools.

live in nannies/housekeepers are relatively cheap. Their nanny stayed with them for 15 years and is very much a part of the family.
