Toddler getting really ‘shy’ when we go out

DS just turned 2, he recently has been very ‘shy’ (I don’t like to use this word) when we go out to see people and just wants me and will just cling to me won’t get down won’t walk just wants to koala hug me

Especially with people he hasn’t seen for a little bit and he never used to be like this

Is this normal how can I help him with kt? I’m 37 weeks pregnant so this is probably why he’s clinging a bit more but I’m like nervous to go places or see people as he’s kicking off a bit so I don’t know what to do x

My wee boy is 2 as well and he can be like this around lots of ppl or new places. He doesn’t talk much around new ppl but he’s getting there. I think it’s just a phase/how some ppl are. Not everyone is outgoing and that’s cool. I also have a 2 month old and if anything I’ve never been so glad I had another baby as he loves to be beside baby out and about. They will be as thick as thieves !

I think it’s just personality. My little guy is very outgoing, always has been. He’ll approach anybody, baby, child, teen or adult & spark up a conversation or join in with them.

Meanwhile his best friend is exactly as you describe your son. And his mum sometimes wishes he was more like DS. But they are crazy about each other in-spite of being so different.

Totally normal. Don't think if it as something that's started suddenly though just he has developed more, has a larger understanding of you and him as separate people and others whereas before he didn't realize that.

In terms of behaviour what would you like him to do and are there areas you can preempt his behaviour. Have you tried giving him something of yours? Telling him to look after it and you'll be back for it in a minute, for some reason toddlers seem to understand that more than you coming back for them.

Try baby signing to aid communication it massively reduces frustration on his part too and can be very helpful.

The people he is unsure of, are they family and friends that you can take photos of and have in his bedroom? Are they people he can facetime and who would read him a story or similar so he remembers them?
