Would this worry you? 11 month old

My 11 month old is social, babbles, smiley, eats fairly well, sleeps well but physically doesn't really do anything! He can sit up but only if put in that position

He can't sit himself up from lying down, he can't crawl, he can't pull up to standing, he can't stand, cruise, walk. He can roll but doesn't much.

At what point do I raise it? If I stand him up holding on to something he will weight bare for maybe a couple of seconds (but not well) and then his legs go like jelly. Is there potentially something wrong?

I think I would have raised this around 8mo if my baby couldn't sit unsupported as that is one of the key factors of readiness for solid food.

That's not to say it's not ok, but there's no harm in raising it.

You have the opportunity to raise any concerns at the 1 year health visitor check (not always exactly at 1 year) but I wouldn’t be too concerned if he can sit up easily unsupported once placed in sitting position. My DD still doesn’t do any of those things at 18 months but started bum shuffling around 13-14 months. We did recently get a referral to physio but the GP was not overly concerned and neither was the health visitor when I spoke to them at 11, 13 and 16 months.

I would not bother with the HV but instead go to the GP if you are concerned.

No one here can really advise, many babies take a bit longer to get moving and all is absolutely fine, but if you are worried enough to be posting then go to see the GP.

I think i would be looking to get the 1 year assessment booked in with the HV to make sure it's booked sooner rather than towards the end of the window for it.

My daughter had delays at 4 months and it was only when she score poorly across the board that it was noted as a potential problem. For example we raised at 8 weeks that she didn't turn to sounds but when at 18 weeks she still wasn't doing this and wasn't doing other things she should have been doing that a hearing test was arranged. Her delays were due to distress caused by undertreating reflux (by GP) and undiagnosed allergies.

We had concerns later when she stopped speaking and lost words. She score ok on the assessment for the age group below her age and 0 for her age group. We got some exercises too do. 6 months later she had made loads of progress and we were no longer concerned.

Yes I would be a tiny bit worried and ask for advice from a HCP. It’s prob nothing but tiny chance they could need support. My own Dd was very slow on the physical side of things and is completely typical at 12 years old now but we were referred to a paediatrician when she was a baby for it,

comfyshoes2022 · 30/12/2023 01:06

It may be nothing, but yes, I would be concerned and looking to start physiotherapy.

NuffSaidSam · 30/12/2023 01:08

I'd do as pp suggested and get in touch with your HV team about the one year assessment.

He's probably just a slow starter but worth having is assessment asap incase any referrals are needed.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 30/12/2023 01:12

Ask for a referral to the Community Paediatrician. Either the HV or GP can do this for you. Don’t wait and don’t be fobbed off.

Singleandproud · 30/12/2023 01:17

As PP have mentioned I would flag it to a HCP but would also start more focussed work on motor skills to build muscle tone, so going swimming or even just running a deep bath for DC to kick and move against. Bicycle leg type games, row row the boat for arms and core etc

CasaMundi · 30/12/2023 15:25

It may be nothing. My daughter never rolled, could sit but only if placed in that position. At 11.5 months she started bum shuffling. Still wouldn't weight bare. I did contact HV but it was during covid. They were pretty disinterested, weren't offering 1 year checks and just said to come back to them at 18 months if not walking. She stood up in the middle of the room one day at 18 months having never pulled up, never cruised. The following day she was walking. Obviously there's no harm flagging it but your baby may just be focusing on other things.

NinNinJin · 30/12/2023 15:26

Yes, I would definitely investigate and invest into physio, swimming and baby massage
