Can walk but won't

15 month old has done 2-3 steps to me for a few weeks now. In the last 2 days this has gone up to 8 steps.

She will only do this if I stand her up (she can stand herself up usually) and then shuffle back and she will walk to me. She will not walk to anyone/anything else. And she won't walk without me encouraging. She is really sturdy when walking to me so I know she can do it.

Any tips or just let her get on with it?

My 1st just walked one day and that was that. So this is new.

DS had a bit of a lack of confidence so we held our things for him mainly chocolate that he wanted to walk for as encouragement.

I'm sure they'll be walking fine in a couple of weeks anyway Wink

My own dd did this. And when I worked in a baby’s room in nursery I saw a number of babies who did this. I’ve also seen babies who just seem to immediately transition from crawling to walking too.

It’s not something to worry about. I think sometimes it’s because crawling is familiar and sometimes it seems that it’s because baby finds it faster to get to where they want to go if they are crawling. I’ve seen babies walk a couple of steps then get down and crawl the rest of the way.

Apparently I was like this as a baby, the day my mother put me in a dress with bare legs on a prickly carpet was the day I walked everywhere.

Thanks everyone for the tips and reassurance. She is food obsessed so will see how she is with chocolate otherwise just let her get on with it for now!

I just know she will be happier taking her sibling to the park and being able to walk round etc.

Both mine were like that. Confident with their walkers, cruising, and while holding a hand, but reluctant to take more than a couple of steps solo. Or would take a step or two, then crawl the rest of the way. DC1 was 16 months when they walked solo, while DC2 finally got there at 17.5 months.

She will do it in her own time. Mine took first steps at 14 months then preferred to walk on his knees everywhere. He didn't really take off with walking till 17 months!!! Now he runs and climbs everywhere , he's 2 now.
