My DS (7 months) has had this stomach bug for 11 days now. He started off with vomiting for 2 days, then moved to diarrhoea. In the past couple of days he's had the odd vomiting episode. Yesterday the diarrhoea seemed to be stopping yet at 3am today he was sick (after a milk feed) and the diarrhoea was back with a vengeance!

He's been seen twice by the Dr who wasn't concerned beyond taking a stool sample to make sure there wasn't a different infection. We're still waiting for these results. He's fine in himself (engaging, laughing, playing etc), just has reduced appetite and it's derailed his weaning journey (he always had a ravenous appetite before).

It just feels like we'll never get back to normal and I wondered if anyone else has had this bug drag on as long as this and what happened in the end? TIA xx

He has likely got temporary lactose intolerance after the noro - especially since the issues are after milk.

Can you get lactose intolerance with formula milk? I never knew that. How do you counter / reverse it? He's getting a little bit of solid food into him but nowhere near what he was eating. Would that mean yoghurt (even with the "good" bacteria) is to be avoided? Thank you

Unless you are buying lactose or CMP free milk, then yes it contains lactose.

Yoghurt should be OK as the lactose is broken down but you have to try it to find out.

Thank you. It makes sense that this is what it is really. How temporary is "temporary"? He's fine apart from nappy rash we just can't make headway with due to the constant changing.

It varies. When I had it, I think I did dairy free for a couple of weeks, then tentatively tried again and was fine.

Was that on advice from your Dr? Or just something you tried?

Absolute guessing! Just had a go, no symptoms anymore so was fine.

Have found this info for babies and infants:

https://www.mkuh.nhs.uk/patient-information-leaflet/lactose-intolerance

We saw that but also saw not to make the change unless on Dr's advice. Just don't know what to do for the best really as don't want to create more problems.
