My first son started getting car sick around 7 months. It was so distracting for me driving that I disabled the front airbag, pushed the front seat back as far as it would go and put his seat in the front. It made a huge difference.

Just as an fyi the extended rear facing car seat by BeSafe can be fitted into the front passenger seat of some cars so your child would still be able to see you.

@doodlepants yes I have a car screamer I don’t want to go anywhere because of it I can’t take the crying I think if she can see me she might be better but she’s very young

How old? I had 2 car screamers and it was hell! But they do grow out of it.

They are now 3 & 1 and both RF.

My daughter cried hysterically every time she was in the car until about 1.5 years too. It was awful and I significantly limited where we went to avoid car journeys as a result. But she stayed rear facing, that was non-negotiable for me. We have a BeSafe Stretch extended rear facing seat. Excellent ADAC safety score. It can be reclined while your child is in it so good for naps, and would last an average child up to around age 7 rear facing, by which time they would typically be ready to safely sit in a high backed booster.

Koalatreats · 21/12/2023 06:50

I rear faced until 7. While they were little I used mirrors so I could see them (and presumably they could see me in my rear view mirror).

From 3 or so they would read/colour etc which is far easier to do as you can prop the book against the back of the seat.

I wouldn’t forward face until as late as possible. My son objected to going forward facing at 7.5😂. He preferred sitting cross legged. He was a screamer as a baby, I would have to sing non stop!

@Lavender2021 yes I am but I’m so confused about which seat to get as it would need to be reclinable as my baby is very particular when it comes to sleep

It depends on your child's percentiles and age to which seat is best and budget. Most seats can be fitted with recline but as they get older the more upright the travel the better.
A couple seats that I know of that can be reclined after fitting but they are the more expensive ones.

I have an Axkid One but it's the most expensive rear facing seat and best for light children as has only a 23kg or 125cm limit which ever comes first.

The Besafe stretch can be reclined after fitting as well and has the highest weight 36kg or 125cm again which ever comes first. Depending on the car you have it is pretty big.

Car screamers are hell. I didn't go anywhere with her if it was over 10 minutes because that was the limit that I could mentally take. Being able to see me and more importantly where she was going cured her car sickness and she became very happy in the car. I really wished I could have rear faced longer but it was becoming unbearable and she was so sick.

BertieBotts · 22/12/2023 08:23

If you can turn off your airbag you could put the seat you have now in the front passenger seat. Then she might be able to see you.

But honestly a lot of babies scream in the car - is she around 4-6 months? I found that singing helped calm mine down but we also just minimised car travel.

Lollibert · 26/12/2023 11:05

@BertieBotts shes 7.5m nothing works to calm her she wants to be taken out of the seat and held but obviously we can’t do that
