Do I offer sick toddler more milk?

Just wondering what others do when their toddler is sick? DD (17 months and can’t yet tell me what she wants) has a mild fever and cold and hasn’t eaten anything yet other than a cup of milk. I tried her favourite food (blueberries) and plain food (toast and bananas) but all was refused. Do I just offer her more milk throughout the day or better to stick with water and the normal amount of milk? Is it bad for them to have too much cows milk at this age or best just to focus’s on anything with calories?

Personally I would give milk. My DS 3 wants milk when poorly and tbh I just give him what he wants so I know he has something on his stomach. Hope your little one gets well soon.

So sorry to hear your baby is unwell.

My DD is almost 11 but I remember when she was poorly she used to drink a lot more milk and eat less food, larger amounts of cows milk isn't harmful so I would offer more milk (and water) if they have no appetite.

Anything they might eat. once when my daughter had tonsillitis she ate 4-5 grapes and 2 Oz of water over 4 days! She has done similar with other illnesses too. Keep an eye on wet nappies and dry lips.

I would offer water over milk, personally, but obviously stick with anything she will accept. It's not about calories right now, it's about fluids. Calories she will make up when she's feeling better.

IME milk makes you more mucasy and bunged up when you have a cold, hence I think water a better choice. Obviously go with whatever fluid your toddler will drink more of.

I would give weak orange squash to entice her to drink. (Not sure if that is the done thing these days)I would give the one with real sugar. As a previous poster said, milk can make you more mucusy and that could make her feel vomitous. Poor love, hope she feels better soon.
