Would you put a newborn in a cheap folding pushchair or use a pram?? Help!

Hello!
We are expecting our 1st baby in August, and have just started to look at pushchairs and prams etc. Argh! I have no idea what is the best for a new born baby, ideally I'd like a 2 in 1 that has a pram like carrycot facing me and then later converts to a pushchair, but DP is worried about cost... He says a basic buggy should be fine from birth, but I'm not sure.
Could anyone tell me if you have used a simple stroller for your little one from the start, or would you recommend a carry cot?
We live in a hilly Cornish town and some cobblestones but mostly just.. hills. DP drives and the boot is fairly large so no worries there. Not keen on travel systems as they look ugly and seem to be so heavy! Please offer some advice??
Thank you..

I agree, I like to see my babies when they are small, so have used a rear facing pushchair and a carrycot. Dont like the idea of buggies for newborns, we have an XT but I didnt use it till DS1 was over a year old.
We had a Windoo carrycot (goes with the Loola chassis) for DS2 which was fab as he slept in it during the day (and night) and it has a breathable mattress to prevent over-heating (he was a summer baby too).
When he outgrew the carrycot we took it off the Loola chassis and added the seat unit which can also face you.
We sold our Loola 2 weeks ago but sitll have the carrycot if that sounds any good.
I think its the best option for newborns.
You can pick up a cheap buggy after 6 months, there are loads for sale on here and ebay.

I have a techno XT (for holidays and the car boot). It is a great buggy but would be a real boneshaker on cobbles - something like a mountain buggy with a carrycot attachment will be better for you I'd say! Also muh better when they are newborns.
I love my bugaboo and is a great ride for the baby but I walk everywhere so not ideal for you as it's awkward to fold.

Please use a pram so that your baby can lie down flat. I worked as a student peads nurse and have been told of babies that have died because they have fallen asleep sitting up in buggy's and have been unable to breath.

We bought a fancy 3 in 1 for dd1 and within 6 months had sold it and bought a Maclaren Techo xt, which we then used when ds was born. It goes flat for newborns and then has several levels to raise it up.

Most of my friends also got rid of their expensive prams in favour of Maclarens too.

buy a maclaren suitable from birth and a thick fleece liner for absorbing jounce

Great fan of mc claren techno too! Had monstrous 3 wheeler for Ds which was a nightmare and bought mc claren techno for Dd, now aged 6 months and she is so snug in it(with foot muff).

I would get a pram, a carrycot is v.useful for daytime sleeping dowstairs. And something with air filled tyres. I have had maclarens and quite frankly the brakes a are crap and if you have a large toddler they are a nightmare to push, and they are boneshakers over rough ground.
