I am currently doing the PTC's long-distance proofreading course. Once I've done that I'll do the Society of Proofreaders' accreditation scheme, which greatly enahnces your chances of getting loads of work apparently.

Of course, I should be doing my assignemtn instead of surfing..........

hi Highlander thank you for replying, it looks as if there aren't many people doing that-you are the only one who replied.what is PTC? Do you mean Publishing training centre? and can you tell me more about that scheme? And if you are talking about the Publishing training centre may i ask what do you think about their editorial course? Is this the best place to do the online courses someone said Chapterhouse are really good. Have you heard of them? sorry too many questions

yes it's the publishing training centre.

it's just a basic proofreading course - recommended by the society of proofreaders and editors. Consists of 5 units, with an assessment at end of each unit. Takes you through the basic proofreading alteration symbols etc. Also advice on getting work. It's NOT concerned with editing, but if you want to do the editing course then you have to do proofreading first.

Didn't consider Chapterhouse, as SfPE seem to recommend PTC.

Both PTC and SfPE have websites with FAQs - I surfed through them extensively before signing up. SfPE have a handy career progression algorithm, and how to qualify along the way (to becoming an editor).
