15 months and hardly eating

My daughter is 15 months and on the 14th percentile, she's already really little. Still in 9-12 month clothing so I'm really trying to make she continues to grow nice and healthy, but the issue I've got at the moment is if I try to spoon feed her she turns her head and refuseto open her mouth and if I give her finger food she plays with it, stacks it all up and then lobs it on the floor. I've tried everything I can think of. I'm just worried because she's not very big as it is she can't really stand to lose any weight.

Is she still drinking a lot of milk? As mine didn’t eat a great deal until we stopped all the milk

Helpmeout124 · 16/12/2023 10:16

She does eat don't get me wrong but most the time it ends up on the floor and I don't see an awful lot actually go in. For breakfast this morning I made her porridge which I tried to feed her I got maybe 3 mouth fulls in. Then I made her some toast which I don't think she ate any of it's on the floor

She has about 3/4 bottles of milk a day I'd say, and 1/2 during the night depends if she wakes up

How many ounces does that equal a day? That does sound quite a lot of milk still, similar to what I was doing and it wasn’t until i cut back the milk they started eating more solid food as they just weren’t hungry enough. What are her nap times, does she need milk to get to sleep?

Wondered26 · 16/12/2023 10:28

Is your LO having cows milk?

Helpmeout124 · 16/12/2023 11:07

I'm not sure I don't really look at ounces anymore I just fill the bottle to the top, I'm guessing 9? Maybe it's too much 🥴 I didn't realise. I'll try cutting it down a bit and see how she gets on. She does nap but she dosnt really have a set nap time. I have 2 older children so she has to kind of go with the flow in terms of routine. She sleeps in the pram or car if we're out, 3rd child problems 😄

I know I'm a third time mum but my other two never had an issue

If children turn away from the spoon or throw their food on the floor, they are simply not hungry. Perhaps she's filling up on too much milk. As she's more petite she might just not need a lot of milk anymore.

By that age I had reduced breastfeeding to once in the morning and once before bed. In between he would probably drink not even a full sippy cup of whole cows milk. Any other whole cows milk would be in cereal or porridge. I think she's probably just full up so she has no interest in eating anything else.

I would definitely try cutting down the milk. My DD by the time she was about 16 months was only having a sippy cup of milk before bed.

That might be less than recommended so not suggesting you necessarily should cut down that much ( my dd has porridge or chia pudding made with milk most mornings and eats lots of yoghurt and cheese so I’m happy that her calcium intake is fine…. Also stuffs her little face with food all day long so doesn’t need it!)

I would say that's far too much milk at that age. You need to offer food before milk and keep it until morning/evenings only. My daughter was the same and her intake only increased when milk was significantly reduced.

Far too much milk.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/12/2023 12:08

Cut back on the milk. Our youngest was the same until senior school. At 15 months, would take hours to get breakfast down him. Looking back at photos he was a little waif!
At 20, he’s 6ft 5 and strapping so try not to worry.
