Where do you buy toddler/baby glasses?

I've tired googling but I can't figure it out. 4 year old has been wearing glasses for a while but he has a really small head (2nd centile) we've tried 3 pairs from Specsavers, the only opticians in our town and they all slip down, I just assumed we had to live with it until he grows. At his appointment today they have written him a glasses voucher for they same prescription he is currently on but so we could get another pair that won't slip.

Stupid not to question it at the time but ?? Where and how? I've seen babies wearing glasses so somewhere must make ds size ones. Obviously happy to go further afield or order online but I can't figure out where?

Babies that I know that have had glasses have had them from the hospital. Perhaps it's worth ringing the local eye department at your hospital and ask them to order you them if you provide the prescription? Even if it's not possible you could be directed to the correct place

Tomato glasses are the ones most people recommend.

Are there no independent opticians close to you? Can specsavers not order a smaller frame for you? When dd had glasses as a toddler she had a little strap that went round the back of her head to help keep them from slipping down her nose

As a baby DS had Miraflex (soft ones with straps). I googled for opticians who said they stock them.

Now he has Tomato which are more grown up looking but so come in small sizes.

Some hospitals provide the glasses, others don't

You need an independent optician who will order some in for you to try. They do come in tiny sizes.

JollyJellyCat · 14/12/2023 20:13

Ring the eye hospital/department and see if they can recommend - often the in house opticians also have their own practices. I can recommend two in the North East if that helps. Or where in the country are you so others can suggest.

You can't do kids glasses online.

So, you will need to find somewhere who stocks or can order some. Probably an independent optician.

Daughter been wearing glasses.since she was 2. We've always used boots, they been great, she's 11 now and still uses boots

Tessiebeare · 14/12/2023 20:20

We used tomatoes, miraflex or nano vista for smaller kid glasses but you generally need to go to an independent for them.

We've always used Vision Express who have been great and have a good (although limited) selection since getting glasses at 2, and have always made sure the fit is perfect including adjustments when she grew slightly. Maybe we got lucky as the staff were amazing with her everytime taking time qhen she was being a bit fussy and always friendly when we had to go back many many times for them to fix what she broke.

I have noticed our boots have a greater selection of young childrens glasses but can't comment on toddlers fit.
They should not be selling you glasses for a child that aren't a great fit though which is the reason you can't buy online as you can with adults.

My DS has been in glasses since he was 3, we get them from a local independent optician that has a couple of stores around our city. I asked on a local mum FB group and they were recommended.
