When should baby start wearing shoes?

Baby is 10 months

just started crawling and is at nursery 2 days a week. Most of the time at home he is in sleepsuits rather than clothes as it’s easier and he pulls off socks etc

whwn should he start wearing shoes? Trainers etc? I thought when he starts walking. At nursery he wears socks and if out and about I have those pram boot things if needed but wondering when shoes are needed? I see some people with trainers on babies?

If I was putting them down on wet ground then they'd need dry trousers after, so I wouldn't be bothered by changing damp socks too. They had shoes once walking well.

We did the same. DS cruised around the playground in thick socks.

I put shoes on my DD way before she started walking at 16 months.

Why?

@Pipistrellus

I guess so.
Damp socks and feet is a horrible feeling though. Much worse that knees. If it was wet mine were usually in splash suits/waterproof trousers when they weren't walking yet anyway.

Only when he starts walking regularly outside I think

Has MN not heard of waterproof all in ones?? I thought those were the norm, we ask every parent to bring one for their baby.

I left it quite late until she was looking to walk when at the playground.

i got these awesome sock things called mocc ons… they are like long socks with a suede sole and we used those for a bit of cruising in the house / out in cafes etc. we used those for a few months at least.

i then went for bobux and old soles which are supremely soft and comfy.
I get them in the sales to limit the damage

When DS started cruising I got him very soft pre walkers from Inch Blue. As PP say he did need something for a little protection in the playground but with little support. Now I buy from Happy Little Soles, they are all barefoot shoes which are much better for their developing feet. Can't stand to see tiny tots in clunky inflexible Nike etc, it's ridiculous to prioritise fashion over lifelong foot health.

Hi OP, I work at a nursery and we loveeee when parents have shoes or at least something waterproof that doesn't slide off when crawling!!! Reason being is just for getting out in the garden; if baby has no shoes we either can't take them out, have to constantly pick them up (limits their exploring!) or their little socks and feet get wet!! Doesn't have to be hard sturdy walking shoes but at least something that keeps their feet dry is a godsend ❤️

If they are crawling outside then their hands and knees would get wet too?

My youngest has had them from age two but it didn't occur to me to get one for a baby. I think he would have been hot in the sling.
