Speech Therapy 20 months

For those that have seen a speech therapist what activities or homework do they suggest?
My 20 month old still doesn't say any words at all and I have an appointment next month with HV but just wanted to get a head start on what I could be doing to help?
Already do flashcards, talking through play, reading, give choices. Just so desperate to try anything as sometimes feel judged that it's my fault he isn't talking.
He does understand and follow instructions.
He was late to clap and still doesn't really wave but does point and have babbling conversations with himself so maybe he is just slow in this department.
Any help appreciated. Thanks

Following as in same boat with my 23 month old. He can clap, can say "Ah" and responds when we do it and can babble, but that's it.

paediatrics said will review next month..

Mine has just started private speech therapy, he will be 3 soon.

I know it's expensive but I gave up waiting for the HV service to help. It took a year to get a hearing test which I pushed for from age 2 as he had almost no speech. As soon as his hearing was confirmed as fine, we found a private speech therapist. I was referred by the NHS in Sept and I still haven't heard anything so goodness knows where we'd be now.

Anyway, the first thing we were advised to do was simplify our speech back down to 2 or 3 word sentences. Our boy is delayed as he had glue ear between 1 and 2 and missed out on key development. His hearing is now fine. His speech improved overnight with us cutting out unnecessary words - for example, let's get our shoes on, became, put shoes on.

Using Makaton for key gestures such as eat and drink.

We are now building sentences using verbs. I spend all day narrating everything- look! The man is riding a bike. Mummy is driving the car etc.

Starting at pre school has also helped massively.

We are one term into speech therapy and pre school and the change is enormous.

Watch Miss Rachel on you tube with your child . She basically does what a speech therapist would teach you to do at home. Once you've watched her enough you will pick up loads of tips on how to slow your language down, emphasize certain words, repeat key words etc.
