Breastfeeding / Breast pain

Is it ever normal? Google says no, which is worrying!

I’m not in agony or anything, but they definitely don’t feel the same as “normal” pre pregnancy/breast milk. Overall they feel tender and the upper outer parts of both breasts are the most tender and hard, regardless of whether baby feeds or not. A few lumpy areas on the surface.

It’s nothing too worrying for me really but Google is making it out to be a huge deal. I thought it was normal? Baby is only 5 days old and my milk only came in properly the day before yesterday/yesterday. Will it settle? Baby is cluster feeding.

It will settle. Your milk has only just come in so it’s normal for them to be tender and full at the moment. Your body will figure out how much milk baby actually needs soon and stop over producing and it should improve.

I definitely felt super sensitive at first, but you adjust over the weeks/months and wearing a bra doesn't feel like a punishment.

It's probably worth mentioning every time you see your HV/GP - especially if you feel the same by your 6 week check.

Yes definitely normal. I would say mine took about a week to settle down after my milk came in properly X

This is normal.
A bit of a weird thing which definitely works was recommended by my mom, sister and a few midwifes: cabbage leaves. Get a white cabbage and put the cold leaves on your boobs. Worked wonders for me in the first days. I even have photos of me with baby on one boob and cabbage on the other ...

Over 10 months of breastfeeding I had 2 or 3 days of painful feeds. Each time it was around a day and usually followed a day of intense cluster feeding or she had a feeding aversion and a lazy latch.
If it beyond an odd feed or an odd day where it hurts get a feeding assessment.

Oh this was totally normal for me, and several friends. My boobs would feel tender in various places, hard sometimes, and occasionally I'd have random shooting pains. Nothing really bad but it lasted the whole time I breastfed on and off (started weaning at 6 months).
