Worried after reading the 1 year review questions ?

Hi everyone I just got my appointment through and the little booklet of questions
/ checklist and now got myself a little worried

Every single question is ‘yes’ apart from the gross motor questions where he answers no to them all! They are all about ‘cruising’ or standing independently. However it was only last week where he pulled to stand for the first time let alone start cruising.

he is nearly 11 month old and the appointment is in a couple of weeks should I be worried? I naively never thought anything of it, we go to class with 5 babies similar age and one walks but all the others seem similar level.

thank you in advance
worried ftm

I wouldn't worry- apart from anything else, 4 weeks is a very long time at this age!

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 04/12/2023 19:53

My daughter didn't pull to stand until 11 months and didn't walk until 14 months. Doesn't sound like anything to worry about x

Don’t worry about it. If there is any underlying issues they will be picked up in due course but 12 months is still early to be walking/cruising in a lot of cases. Some will some won’t. My dd didn’t sit up until 10 months and then walked at 13 months and caught up with all her milestones. She’s now ahead. Ds didn’t walk until 13 months either.

All the first born boy babies I've known have been a lot slower than the girls. No use idea why. He sounds very much in normal range, try not to worry. When they have finally got up the ones we know we're off like rockets! They seemed to move from toddling to walking to running properly far quicker than our daughter did.

I wouldn't worry. Like others have said 4 weeks can be a long time. DC1 wasn't crawling or walking at 11 months and within 2 weeks he did both.

If he's still the same when the HV does the assessment, ask her to book you in for 2 months time to do the 14 months Ages & Stages.

Charlotteap · 04/12/2023 22:57

Thank you all very much for the replies, I feel a lot better now. Luckily all the other questions were yes, he’s been crawling for a few months and last week pulled ti stand for the first time but his legs give way after 20 seconds or so, hoping with some more practice he will get better.

thanks again I will sleep better tonight

Don’t worry at all. The variation between babies motor skill at this age is huge, you have some confidently walking at 10 months and some who don’t stand let alone walk until 18months. I’ve parented both ends of the spectrum and both are totally normal.

Basically they go through everything then say ok we will call back in a couple of months to check up. And then they might or might not.
I don't think late walking is classed as a problem on its own
Our son is still not walking at 15 months, he's just not that bothered I don't think!
He was 9 months before he was even bothered about rolling let alone sitting up.
Some babies learn things in different orders I think.

Luzina · 05/12/2023 00:08

DS1 walked early (before 12m)
DS2 walked at 17 months

both same at 2. Don’t worry

I think they have to get to 18 months before not walking is investigated. So 15 months is normal, if a little frustrating for you. The NHS certainly advise to see your GP of baby isn't walking by 18 months Wink

MirandaWest · 05/12/2023 07:27

Neither of mine walked until they were 15 months. One had been cruising for about 6 months and one didn’t move at all until 10.5 months and didn’t do any standing until about a year.

They’re now 20 and 18 and walk fine (I have other worries of course!)

wishIwasonholiday10 · 05/12/2023 07:27

They are not expected to score
yes on everything. Mine scored down in several categories and the HV was not bothered at all. Some things she picked up a few weeks later while others she is still a bit behind. She is still not pulling to stand or cruising at 16 months and when I talked to the HV recently they just said to call back if no progress by 18 months.

Our twins were walking before 1 our son he was around 15months just up and went properly one day and that's it now a perfect walker at 3

Charlotteap · 18/12/2023 12:19

just To update for anyone who happens upon this in future. HV appt today and she wasn’t worried at all, said to contact her again if he isn’t walking by 18mo. The last couple of walks he’s started pulling up on everything so hoping he starts cruising soon.

thanks again everyone
