Question about wraps for night time nappies (washables)!!

Hi everyone,
Im thinking of trying a couple of new nappies for night times. At the moment we use a boosted Motherease Bamboo Sandy with a Rikki wrap, which works fine most nights, but I fancy being daring and trying something new! Ive been looking at Baby Beehinds bamboo fleece (one size) and Minki Huggle. I have no idea what wraps to use with these? All the wrap sizes just dont seem to correspond with the nappy size! Help!

I have a minki huggle and I use a lovebums wrap with it as nothing else is big enough! But a bigger sized ME Rikki or Airflow would prob. be fine - so if you normally use a medium, buy a large or x-large. I do like the lovebums as they're fleece cuffs and don't leave any marks. Staccinator are also recommended on here. Huggle is lovely btw although they take an age to dry!

I use a Staccinator Wool wrap - very effective. No leaks & wool wraps are very breathable, bringing the temperature of the nappy area down by several degrees.

Another Minki Huggle user here. I find it works fine with the same wrap I would use during the day, I only go up a wrap size if I'm out of huggles and he is in a double terry.

we love wool shorts. they are superb and cooler for babys bottoms too

Thanks for all your replies! I must admit I feel a little out of my depth with wool outers! Do they have to be washed separately or treated with anything?

Just to be REALLY cheeky - I have a Stacinator (fleece, still breathable but gets slung in the machine with everything else) for sale.... if you wanted to try it. I HONESTLY (not trying to persuade you just give you my exp of it!) used it and it was great with a Motherease bamboo and a bamboo booster, ace combo!

wool wraps - what a godsend. DD could outwee any wrap but not a wool wrap

yes they need lanolising say ever 4 weeks or so. but apart from that you put them over a normal night time nappy (fully lanolinised) and in the morning whilst it might be a tad damp it wont be wet through. Hang the wrap up to dry out totally (often easier to have 2 so that they can air fully between wearings) and then they are ready to use again.

to lanolinise I have some woolcure which I put a capful into hot water and let it cool. the wrap then is soaked in that for 12 hours and then squeezed out and hung out to air dry. Voilla ready to use. As I said there is no need to wash them more often unless you feel that its getting a bit too damp in the morning or unless its soiled.

How effective are wool wraps for daytime use? I remember seeing something about they can wick under tight clothing??

squimlet · 13/03/2008 20:46

well i guess they could get some compression wicking but only if LO was sitting down for long periods of time like in a car seat. I think the fleece wraps are more prone to this than wool as they rely on the wicking more than the wool. Wool will wick moisture but they are also water repelling in their own rights

pamplemousse · 13/03/2008 20:50

I think both are prone to it a little, fleece more than wool but dd never had a problem with this at night times, as she wriggled around a lot, I think most of them do tbh. I think wicking is more when they are sat heavily in a pushchair or carseat, this is where I have found it happens anyway.

Arghhhh, I was so disappointed with the Baby Beehinds bamboo nappy . It is tiny for a btp and feels more like hemp than bamboo. They are nice design but my DD2 is just in size 2 nappies and her beehinds nappy fits only on the last setting . Just thought I'd mention it before you splash out. If you want to buy one......

pelvicflawed · 14/03/2008 14:09

Would second BigBadMouses comment - we use baby beehinds on our 22mth DS and though we generally very pleased with them (they absorb huge amounts of wee - but take ages to dry) they are small. DS is a very slim relatively light young man and we don't have many settings to go - don't reckon they would go through to potty training with a chunkier older child. For what its worth we use an airflow wrap (large) and it works well.

Octothechildherder · 14/03/2008 14:10

Pamplemousse - what size is the wrap - have been thinking about a wool one for ages.

pamplemousse · 14/03/2008 17:58

Its a fleece Stacinator - in medium. Or I have a woollen Woolly Wrap in medium.

Octothechildherder · 15/03/2008 14:54

Bummer - needed large.
