Could 20 month old be ready to drop her nap?

My 20 month old’s usual bedtime is 8pm and usually we have no issues with it. However the past week or so it’s been taking forever for her to go to sleep. It’s 10pm now and she’s still wide awake, singing, talking, laughing and playing with her cuddly toy in her cot.
Her usual nap is about 1.5 hours from about 12 to 1:30pm. The only night this past week she’s had no issues falling asleep at bedtime was after her day of being looked after by my mother in law, who tried to put her down for her nap but it didn’t happen at all. So could this be the start of her transitioning into dropping the daytime nap? She seems young for it, I have friends who’s 3 year olds still nap but I know they’re all different.

Mine is 2 next week. She usually naps 12/12:30 for 1.5hr, so awake 2.15ish. Won't go to sleep til 8.45/9.15pm. We'd love her to be asleep 8pm every night & to wake up at 7, that'd be ideal for us. (Usually more like 9pm-7am)

The last month, she's refused to nap 3 times - when she's woken up later between 7.45-8.45. Then she's fallen asleep 7.30ish. However, if she wakes up 6/6.30 there's no way she'd survive until even 7pm and I don't want her going to sleep at 6pm, coz she'd be up at 5! Soo she'd end up falling asleep on the living room.floor at 4/5pm

Basically, nap or no nap is a nightmare in some way. But, she's offered a nap every day, unless she wakes up late (on non nursery days I now won't wake her, in the hope she wakes up late to not need a nap without a very early bedtime).

It's probably just a short phase and she'll be back to sleeping at 8pm again soon. It seems young to me. Dropping the nap isn't black and white anyway. It could be several months of napping some days not others.

My friend's kid dropped her nap completely at 14 months!

My dd is the same age as yours and still naps. However she's known for changing suddenly so I'm aware it could come out of the blue any time really!

My twins are 26 months and just went through this. No naps for the last month and they're sleeping a lot better most nights thankfully. For a month or two though it was trial and error - some days theyd nap as normal and go to bed at their regular time, and other days refuse naps and still be awake until 10

Maybe she just needs a shorter nap. So wake after 1 hour rather than 1.5 hours x

Thanks everyone for your replies. Agree it could be a phase - and it’s a good point about getting up later as she’s naturally sleeping longer in the mornings as it’s dark, so that maybe has a knock on effect for later in the day. Will try capping the nap at 1 hour to see if it helps! Trial and error is correct!

If you're going to change something I would try it for a good month before you make a final decision. We had an awful time with the 18m sleep regression, but I was 100% convinced he wasn't ready for no nap. I spent 2 weeks walking around to force a buggy nap every day. We got past it and after a couple of months he really did start to drop the nap - but he was clearly ready to begin the transition by that point, and it was only once a week that he didn't nap.

Trust your instincts, because you know your child best
