Car seats for newborns?

Pregnant with DC2, keeping my silver cross Pram from DC1 but by the time baby is born the pram will be 5 years old. It came with a car seat which means that's also 5 years old so going to invest in a new one. Wondering if anyone had experience with the cybex car seat or the maxi cosi one with the slide technology. Can get adapters for pram for either for if we use the car seat on that. TIA

My little one uses a cybex cloud z2i-size. I use it with adapters on an egg2 base, bought a travel set but switched out the egg car seat for the cybex because it was so sturdy and I wanted 360.

It’s great being 360 but it’s sooooooo heavy! It wasn’t too bad in the beginning but now my little 5lb-er is pushing 17lbs it’s like lifting a sack of spuds in and out of the car.

Car seats have a life expectancy of about 7 yrs I was told at the weekend in a car seat shop. I would check the polyestering before deciding. We have reused the infant seat which is 4yrs old but will get DC2 a next next stage seat

Agree that you can keep your old car seat if it's still in good condition.

Both Cybex and Maxi Cosi are good if you are wanting a new one. I'm not sure the slide technology is worth the massive price tag. The Maxi Cosi Pebble Pro is a lovely seat and costs a lot less.

Thanks for your replies ladies, I don't want to take the risk of the other seat. already talked myself into the fact I'm buying a new one, can't put a price on safety can you so think I'm going to go with the cybex 😊

Cybex car seats are lovely too :)

We tried the Cybex one and also the Silvercross dream I size and didn't like either of them. We switched to a Silvercross Motion Allsize 360 which can't go on the pram, but we love it. It turns to you and has different recline positions. It's also so easy and smooth to get baby in and out of. Our baby would scream getting in and out of the other car seats while she is silent during transfers in this seat. Additionally, it works up to 12 years and can be used rearward facing until the child is 4.

I appreciate you may want one to pop on the pram, but depending on the distances your traveling you may find that baby reaches the time limit for the car seat anyway. In which case it's better to get them into a carry cot so they don't spend too long in the car seat.

We had the maxi cosi pebble 360 and now need to upgrade to the Pearl 360. It's been great and we used adaptors for mh pram though its not a silver cross one. I'd check the website to see if there's a list of attachments that will work with the pram or ring a stockist and see if they know? Our pram was second hand and I was able to look up the model online and they had a list of all suitable brands of car seats that worked with it.

We've had both Cybex and Maxi-Cosi infant carriers. Both great. Cybex was heavier but lasted longer and had a nicer hood. We sometimes attached it to our Bugaboo.

Both the Cybex Cloud T (previously known as the Cloud Z2 and Cloud Z!) and the Maxi Cosi Pebble 360 Pro are brilliant car seats that lie flat both on the chassis of the pushchair and in the car on the isofix base.
You will need the Pioneer/Wayfarer Universal Car Seat Adaptors for whichever car seat you get.
The car seats are a decent size so do last 15 months or so but as PP said, quite heavy with the lie flat technology built into them. The new Cybex Cloud G is slightly lighter and cheaper than Cloud T so that might help?
Try and find a local independent nursery shop if you can (I work for one as a buyer, hence knowing so much!), you will able to compare them all and try out in your car etc x

@Lavender14 Before you buy the pearl 360, it's worth comparing against the Britax Dualfix plus and the Cybex sirona Gi i-size, these are also spin seats but don't need the separate base like the maxi Cosi. Keeps the base free in case you need it for another baby. They also have a higher weight limit.

Another thing to consider is what centiles your LO is on, for a baby on the 50th centile, the maxi Cosi pearl 360 will be outgrown at around about exactly 4 years old, which could be just before 4. If your LO is smaller than average that might not be a problem but if they are bigger than average they could potentially be too big for this seat around 3 years old, which would be more of a problem.

You might want to instead consider the rear facing seats up to 125cm by axkid, Britax, besafe - these last until approx 6 years for a child on 91st centile or 7 for a child on 50th centile. A couple of models are on offer currently for £230 / £280 so don't have to be loads more expensive than the Pearl either.

The Pearl is a good seat too. It's just worth considering the different options rather than automatically going for that one as you have the base for it. 🙂
