Relentless illness

DC2 is nearly 5 months and it has been utterly relentless since he was born with illness. He’s already had 2 hospital stays, 1 with Bronchiolitis and 1 with v. high temp and wheezing ?pneumonia (turned out to be covid). In between its permanent snot/cough/sneezing. He’s now been vomiting for 48 hours. Trying to get a doctors appointment as he’s just crying at the boob and his nappies smell really concentrated.

DC1 is 3 and is in pre school 3 days. He’s permanently snotty and occasionally coughing but otherwise well. We are militant about hand washing with him.

Is this normal?? As awful as covid lockdown was the one silver lining was that DC1 didn’t get a single virus until he was over 6 months.

I’m absolutely exhausted and at my wits end. I knew 2 would be hard but I didn’t expect this volume of illness to be the reason it is so hard!

Sending support. For me it was normal as they picked up bugs at school and nursery. It was a hard time. It did get better once their immune system improved but it was knackering.

Thanks so much @Wondering101 Flowers I assumed it probably was normal. The illness has easily been the hardest thing this time round re:parenting a small baby. I think my experience with DC1 spoilt me a bit! DC1 also seems to have a very high threshold for illness and barely gets properly ‘sick’. DC2 seems to get a lot more sick more easily!

@StepSquad I hear you! My pre-school and Primary schools DCs haven't been able to go to either this week as they've been so poorly again. In our house we have a good week, bad week, good week.. etc.. it's never ending. I've got no solutions but know you're not alone! Flowers

@kiwimelonlime yes that’s exactly what it has been like here. Barely a week goes by before DC2 comes down with something else that often hangs round for at least a week. Just praying DC1 doesn’t start vomiting. I think that would be the actual end of me 😵‍💫

@StepSquad Fingers crossed for you! We're in the middle of the Vomiting bug this Week, I've had to take the week off work and it's been horrendous, so much washing when they're sick!! 🤢

TwinkleStarWhatAre · 30/11/2023 14:29

Yeah that first year with was super rough for illness. Little one went through chickenpox, covid, flu, stomach bugs and not to mention pretty constant colds, coughing, sneezing, etc. That's the problem with an older one being in a childcare setting and bringing everything home! It gets easier once their immune system builds a bit

Beginningless · 30/11/2023 14:30

Aw bless you all. That sounds worse than average with how poorly your youngest has been, but just bad luck really. There’s little you can do to boost their immune system above what you’re doing. I have two that catch everything, it’s grim. Everything crossed for you that no one else starts to vomit.

I hear you.
This last week DD has had worms, a sickness bug unrelated to that and off nursery for two days with a temperature now and cough and cold.
I've also had to take leave for the endless washing and cleaning that comes with having threadworms.
We are on our knees, used all annual leave and dependency days as have no other childcare.
I hate it and would never have had kids if I'd know it would be this relentless and hard
