4m baby suddenly refusing bottle and dummy

Anyone else experienced this or can give me any insight please?

Suddenly combo fed baby is refusing bottle and dummy….

She is 4 months and had her last vaccinations this week and I can’t be sure, but possibly teething. Not sure if this could be causing it. She doesn’t seem unwell and is still filling nappies etc, it just seems like a really sudden overnight change!

thanks

Mine is coming up 5 months and started teething at 4m….he is formula fed but was the same. The only way he would drink formula for about a week was fridge cold and he refused a dummy and hasn’t had one since! Very bizarre but back to normal now (eating more if anything) but still minus dummy, he just sucks his hands now.

Common. They lose the automatic sucking reflex around 3-5 months and become picky about what they suck on. It’s why newborn babies will polish off a bottle of formula even if they have breastfed for the previous 6 hours. DS2 had a bottle of formula a day from birth (otherwise EBF) and went from wolfing it down to completely rejecting the bottle in the space of a couple of nights. Same thing happened with the dummy, although he was always much less fussed about that.

I think all you can do is continue offering daily with no pressure. I wouldn’t bother buying a whole heap of different bottles - im my experience a breastfed baby either takes a bottle or not.

DS was breastfed so didn’t use bottles but absolutely refused dummy from about 4months and never had one again. In the long run, I feel it’s been good as we didn’t have to wean him off it.

Thanks all - yes the upside of dummy refusal is one less job to wean her off it later!
I just found it helpful to settle baby in public and for my husband to use. Same with the bottles, it was good for him to be able to help with night feeds etc or if my supply seemed low in the evenings.

that explanation makes sense @VivaVivaa i didn’t realise about the losing the sucking reflex! Thanks

Teeth, or possibly thrush.

Is there a bit of drooling and / or biting hard on toys, etc going on? If so, probably teething.

But get thrush checked.
