we had fallen into that habit of dvd and tv all the time, mainly becuase we had a series of illnesses and the sofa was a deathbed for about 3 weeks and Ceebies was on rotation

so I put my foot firmly down

we have banned tv after school

and in the morning

and.......

behaviour has improved massively
toys are played with
games are created

all in all, miles better

they can watch Little Bear [soul destroyingly crap] for 30 mins and then go to bed

anyone else banned tv for a while? (and I don't mean you weirdos () that do not have one at all)

rubberduck I think the nintendo ds will be accompanying us on our jollies this time. But I agree I am more addicted to the PC than the TV these days but can always cover it up with "just going to pay some bills" or whatever....

DrNortherner · 13/03/2008 12:00

Ds prefers tinternet to tv now actually.

Oliveoil · 13/03/2008 12:00

dd1 wants some hideous Barbie thing with wings now

I said "what is the likelihood dd1 of you getting it?" and she said "none?" in a sad voice

bad mother mwahahahahahahahahaha

My boys seem to be largely indulging their rampant consumerist urges in Club Penguin these days.

RubberDuck · 13/03/2008 12:04

Yeah... we might take the gameboys just in case we get rained out, but am going to try not to let them know they're there!

I just felt (re: the screen free day) that it was hypocritical of me to ban their screens if I wasn't prepared to ban my own at the same time. I'm not sure I'd want to have a school night ban of it particularly (as I feel it might set it up a bit as the forbidden fruit too much), but I do like to have the odd random ban if I feel we've lost sight of other forms of entertainment

I do worry from time to time, but then remind myself that the moment the weather gets better then the kids practically LIVE outdoors so it balances out... I hope

I do that, sometimes take DS's DS (all this DS business confusing) to family gatherings but not let him know. Reason being that all the children are much younger than him and everything tends to be geared towards them - DD being the next oldest child, although she is happily baby obsessed.

bozza · 13/03/2008 15:04

But I do have forbidden fruit syndrome going on. Couldn't work out why DS didn't want to go to Beavers' Camp (one day only so no actual camping involved!) and it turns out that he knew that camp was on a Saturday and he was worried about missing out on his DS time.

i never have the tv on in the mornings.

dh does. when he gets up with the girls on school girls, he has the music channels on, and all mornings its 'dd2, dd2, come on, dd2 stop looking at the tv...'

drives me mad.
