7 week old not sleeping at night

Hello,

Sleepiness nights started two weeks ago when she was 5-6 weeks old. It takes hours to get her to sleep and sometimes it never happens even though she's yawning multiple times. She's very fussy with her bottle too and even point blank refuses it. For the past two nights she has refused sleep despite every attempt to help her.

I'm not sure if I should reduce the hours she's asleep during the day. She tends to sleep for 2-3 hours, sometimes longer. I know they need their sleep at this age which is why I'm uncertain. She also feeds fine during the day, though she's on and off the bottle. It's a lot better than at night.

I'm at a total loss at what to do.

Could it be reflux? My daughter fussed on and off the breast through the day due to reflux. It also impacts on her sleep

Have you looked at wake windows? She might be over tired, especially with lots of yawning.

Phoenixwings1989 · 26/11/2023 16:12

@Superscientist I have suspected reflux for a bit. I've changed the formula to anti reflux and she seems a bit more accepting when feeding but I guess we'll see when tonight comes whether she's any better. Here's hoping.

Try the thicker formula and maybe swap to a variflow teat.

If that doesn't improve it might be worth speaking to your GP about omperazole/lansoprazole to help the reflux.

I think anti-reflux formula is thicker but not 100%. She's hardly taking her bottles today as she's so tired, understandable what with being awake all night.

Yes that's what I meant. Sorry I wasn't clear

Phoenixwings1989 · 27/11/2023 16:15

@Superscientist That's ok.

Changing the milk hasn't helped her settle. She didn't fall asleep until 10 to 7 this morning from being awake from half 1.

Give you gp a call and see if they think a medication to reduce the acid will help - usually it's omperazole but you can also get lansoprazole. Just a warning you can get a bit of a battle where the body tries to counter the medication during the first week or two but it's otherwise an effective medication.

Wishing you a better night tonight!
