Hi everyone,

My little 10 week old has had this rashy chest (also on legs, arms & small amount on back) for around 2 weeks.
He’s never been unwell and is his same happy self, feeding well (EBF) etc etc

I’ve tried not putting anything on it, changing to a gentler moisturiser, only bathing in water etc but it’s just getting worse. I was wondering as it’s not on his head/face or under his nappy if it was washing liquid related as it’s only where his clothes are touching- I was going to get some of the 0% EcoVer and rewash all his clothes.

This morning however it’s the worst I’ve seen it, bright red and looks awful 😩 I was going to ring GP in the morning but tempted to ring 111, has anyone else’s baby’s skin been like this?
(obviously not looking for medical advice just experiences)

Not got any experience with this, sorry OP. Just bumping the thread for you in the hopes someone else comes along who does. Good luck and hope he makes a speedy recovery!

Could it be eczema? When mine had baby eczema it looked like a fine rash. Looks like your baby isn't itchy though?

We did get told to use different washing powder - Ecover users too. But it was very very bad eczema so we needed a lot more than that to address it in the end!

But I would wait for the GP unless you think it might be scarlet fever.

Eczema/allergy or post viral rash. Try plain water for baths, emollient rather than soap. We found Persil non bio best and funnily enough their little rashes went away when I stopped using fabric softener.

Providing it's non blanching I don't think it needs 111 or a even a Dr's apt until you have tried the above. Bung all his vests/babyfros, linens in persil without cond. today to see if it makes a difference swiftly.

with his age i'd ring 111

I'd say that looks a bit like an allergy rash. CMPA is quite common one. Try eliminating milk out of your diet for couple of weeks. X

I don’t think it’s scarlet fever as he has absolutely no symptoms at all and is otherwise totally normally and well in himself!

partner has just got home with the ecover, going to get everything washed now. It may very well be eczema!

Thanks, I’ve got him some of the aveeno dermex range emollient for his bath but was reluctant to try as he’s reacted to the normal aveeno baby range

it’s definitely non blanching, I’m going to rewash all his clothes now and give up my beloved fabric conditioner 😂

My little one had a rash just like that, turns out she was allergic to milk - she was on aptamil. It cleared up as soon as we switched milk, we had to get it prescribed by the gp. Is the baby vomiting a lot? Like having trouble keeping milk down?

Added a photo - pic was of her tummy

Speak to the gp & health visitor about it. Hope it clears up soon 💐

And perhaps e45 emollient rather than aveeno. You'll probably want to swap and try different moisturisers too. The world and his wife will tell you the magic one that worked for them or their kids. But it's just trial and error!

TwinMummaX · 26/11/2023 17:23

My ds had this too and i took him to the gp they told me he had eczema. I started using Childs Farm products on him. After just 1 wash/moisturise it looked loads better. Obviously what works for one might not work for another just my experience. Hope it clears up soon!

Hello I know this was a long time ago now but did you ever find out what it was? My 4 month old has something very similar. Appears very unbothered by it but it looks really angry
