Baby is 4 weeks. Was pulling while breathing and breathing really loudly. Took her to a&e they said she has bronchitis/ RSV and the next couple of days are crucial as to what way things will go … either good or bad.
baby wasn’t kept in, vitals were good apparently with wet nappies and normal feeds so they sent us home with a leaflet on what to look out for and to come back if things worsen or feeds/nappies stop.

but I just wanted to know some positive stories / outcomes where people have taken there babies home and they’ve recovered just fine without any interventions…

anyone I know or anything I read online all say the worst case scenario and I just need to know for my own sanity that things can get better without it always being the worst possible situation …!

Both my ds's have had bronchitis with and without inpatient treatment ds2 mainly outpatient. Day 3 tends to be the worst then perked up. Try and tilt the top end of babys bed it helps lengthen the lungs during sleep. I used tins of beens under the legs of cot when they were older or made wedges. It can be very scary ds1 had it worse but is now strapping 17 year old and ds12 is 12 neither have any lasting effects.

My little one got broncholitis at 5 weeks. Again we took him to hospital as was so small and sucking in at ribs. We were also discharged as vitals were good plus feeding well. He recovered within a week with zero issues.

How is your baby now? We are currently going though the same thing as baby girl who is 5 week has RSV and Influenza. I was sent home from the hospital but bloody hell I'm petrified. It's the coughing that scares me so much. Did you do anything to speed up the receivers?

I would say generally that if they're sending you home, they're not that worried BUT you absolutely call for help or return if you think they're struggling to breathe, if they're blue around the lips etc.

DS is on O2 permanently so every RSV / Bronc meant hospital and extra O2 but he always got over it in a few days.

Drinking and breathing simultaneously is HARD so if they're drinking slow don't push them, make sure they have enough but take it slow and give lots of rest breaks.

It's just so scary because she is so young and so small. When she coughs it's really like she's choking. They sent me home but they said things could always decline quickly which is scary to think of. How old was your son when he first got it?

@coco111 Little one is doing much better now. It was really scary and I did end up going back down to a&e as kg seemed her retraction had gotten worse. But it all seemed to calm down after a few days I just kept her close and me and DP took it in turns sleeping at one point just to keep an eye on her. She then had a cold afterwards and was struggling to take feeds as she couldn’t breathe through her nose but we got a saline spray and it really helped. Touch wood she is absolutely fine just still suffering with a blocked nose!
hope your little one is better now too x
