Christmas gifts for one month old?

Lyly86 · 25/11/2023 16:02

So, DS1 is due within the next week and so will be approximately one month old at Christmas, I was wondering if people typically would buy Christmas gifts for a baby of this age? He currently has a fully kitted out nursery with everything he could possibly need so seems silly to buy additional purchases when he will have no idea what the hell is going on! My partner and I have bought him a lovely personalised Christmas card which we'll save for when he's older, but struggling to see the point in any presents this year? Also to add we don't have any other children so no risk of older children wondering why Santa hasn't brought anything for their brother!

Just wrap up a few bits that you might’ve bought him anyway - older age sleepsuits, uv suit for the summer, special soft toy or a book etc.

I don't think you need to wrap up anything unless you just want the photo opportunity and if you do just wrap up stuff you have already got. You could get a special christmas tree ornaments or something with his hand and foot print on if you want a keepsake.

If you are anything like us you will be ordering a million things off Amazon in those first few weeks even if you think you have everything you need!

We've got a special teddy bear as a keepsake for our little one who will be 5 months and a personalised bauble, plus a few books. Like you say it seems daft to buy much for young babies! And we've bought her so many toys already, plus she'll get gifts from others.

Cloth book? Something for when older?

DuploTrain · 25/11/2023 16:36

Honestly I wouldn’t get anything except keepsakes as he’s too little to even enjoy pulling the wrapping paper off.

Christmas stocking to use in future years, personalised bauble, that kind of thing.

ClemFandangooo · 25/11/2023 16:37

Special teddy/comforter. Rattle for a few months time

luckbealadytonight · 25/11/2023 18:59

Don't bother honestly! Maybe a sweet or silly outfit for a photo but that's all.

UnravellingTheWorld · 25/11/2023 19:01

Don't bother. You can get away with minimal effort for a couple of years: in the future this will not be the case. Save yourself the stress and concentrate on enjoying the newborn stage.

BuffaloCauliflower · 25/11/2023 19:02

My DS was born in November and for his first Christmas we bought him toys for his first year. As he was our first child we didn’t have any toys already.

hskdnek572 · 25/11/2023 19:05

I wouldn’t bother as obviously they will have absolutely no idea and you will wrap something up for you to then have to unwrap it yourself seems a little pointless! I’m definitely of the opinion that less is more kn terms of toys though and especially if they already have a well stocked toy room already.

Naptrappedmummy · 25/11/2023 19:06

I wouldn’t but I would buy some kind of lovely keepsake like a baby’s first Christmas bauble or a really gorgeous festive outfit to take some nice pics. I bought into the culture of only buying practical things for DD and not wasting money but sometimes I wish I had bought a few more trinkets and lovely keepsake items. It’s nice to look back on later. Oh and get some footage of him at the dinner table so it feels all festive and nostalgic years down the line 🥰 congrats

Personalised bauble off Etsy for a nice photo but there’s no point otherwise

Make a few dough ornaments and keep on doing so every Christmas.

In a couple of years he'll be helping and then he'll make his own thereafter.

They'll be full of memories when he's all grown up!

Absolutely nothing! Just enjoy your baby.

Superscientist · 25/11/2023 19:25

We do need want read and wear. Look for stuff that can be used through out the year.
My daughter was 4 months at Christmas and her need was weaning stuff for example

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/11/2023 19:30

DS was 3 months for his first Christmas. We gave him a toy box with his name on and a couple of sensory toys.

HermioneWeasley · 25/11/2023 19:32

I’d definitely be asking relatives for money for his savings rather than piles of crap

Torganer · 25/11/2023 19:38

They will have no idea! Family put into a savings account and we bought them a bauble. This year they are 2.5yrs and it’s the first Christmas they will actually notice so we’ve bought a few bits. Save your money whilst you can!

bettynutkins · 25/11/2023 19:46

I got this for our baby one year, was excellent.

Marblessolveeverything · 25/11/2023 19:51

My second was a late November baby we bought him a Xmas teddy with the year and his name embroidered on it.

wishuponastar1988 · 25/11/2023 19:57

My baby was 4 months old last Christmas and we got her some clothes in bigger sizes, a second hand activity table and a sensory box. Didn't wrap anything because frankly I was too tired Grin Family bought her some hair clips (she has LOADS of hair), clothes, books and then vouchers for days out that we used this summer (Aquarium and the zoo)

MsSquiz · 25/11/2023 20:01

DD1 was a week old for her 1st Christmas so we got her:
A beautiful Wedgewood tree decoration
A cute outfit for Christmas Day
Some Christmassy books including "the night before Christmas"
Toys that she would grow into over the year

WeightoftheWorld · 25/11/2023 20:23

DC1 was 6 months old at their first Christmas and we bought them a door bouncer (which neither them nor DC2 was ever particularly fussed on anyway and we are just about to pass it on to our nephew). DC2 was 2 months old at their first Christmas and I can't even remember what we bought them already. It was something similarly small though.
