Next to me cribs

Not just the next to me but all types of cribs I am reading they can only be used up until baby is 6 months old or can sit up - I was thinking about getting the shnuggle air crib with conversion so the baby can stay in our room for a bit longer if we want her to and then we can move this into her bedroom until she is 2 before buying a bed

I was just wondering if anyone can see any flaws in this plan? Or am I just being silly and should just get a next to me or snuz pod and then move baby into her room into a cot at 6 months….

I am just starting baby shopping and there is so many choices it is hard to know what to get for the best - all advice welcome thanks

We had my crib for the first 6-7 months. At this point she could sit up and was at risk of pulling her out of the crib.
We moved her to a cot bed which fitted in the corner of our bed room and she stayed in that until she was 2 when we moved house and finally were able to give her a room of her own. We converted the cot bed to a bed at this point. The switch to WFH mean the nursery was turned into an office in our old house but thankfully the master bedroom was big enough for the cot and her drawers and wardrobe were in the spare room

Just to give you our experience OP - we had a next to me from birth to 6.5 months. Attached to our bed for first 2 months then separate but close to bed after that (because I found it easier to stand up to put him down in it as he got bigger). At 6mths we were beginning to disturb his sleep - he was waking if we coughed/got up to toilet etc. So at 6.5mths he went into a cot bed in his own room. At almost 3yrs we removed the sides to make it a toddler bed and he's still in that now at 3.5 years. I think he'll be in it for another year or so.

In contrast, my MIL bought a cot (rather than cot bed) for him at her house for when we visited. Although it in theory also converted to a bed style (so she thought it was a 'cot bed'), it was too small for him to use in the bed mode by the time he was ready for the sides to come off so he only used that until about 2.5 years. He now sleeps quite happily in a single bed at her house.

Thanks it is so hard to know what to do for the best isn’t it - I just can’t decide between the shnuggle or the snuzpod

I would spend as little on it as possible.

DD never slept in our beside crib, she co-slept but it was a useful “crash barrier” once she could roll.

She went in to her own room at 15 months and in a cot that converted to a toddler bed which she stayed in until almost 4 years old.

It does rather depend on BF vs FF and size of your bedroom but personally there is no way I’d have wanted her in her own room before 12 months. I wanted her with me as long as possible.

We started with a moses basket as the next to me was big for a newborn

Then used next to me crib for a couple of
Months before moving to own room/cot

I really liked having baby there next to bed. I used to put the moses basket in the crib so it was stable/close up to the bed

They're incredibly expensive considering you only use them for a couple months

Try and get second hand or borrow. You can buy a new mattress online

Also had a cot bed which was good up till age 5

Personally, i think it's better to move them sooner. They're more adaptable at 6 months than 2 years

Mine only slept in the cot bed. It fit in our room so no issue there but we still moved them into their own room early as we were all just disturbing each other. We also had a moses basket but neither were keen on it so I was glad we’d got a cheap one as it didn’t get much use. Each to their own but cosleeping would have been my absolute last resort so I didn’t want to buy anything designed for that before they were born.

Thanks I am leaning towards the snuzpod - will have a look around to see if I can get one second hand as everything is so expensive!

Its hard because you don't know what type of baby you'll get lol. For me the chicco next2me forever is great, it's a next to me/cot/toddler bed. DD is 10 months and is still in it as a next to me because she clingy AF and I can't be bothered to go into her room 1000 times a night. Got mine second hand on vinted.

Might be too big for a new born initially though.
