I’m 12 weeks pregnant with me 3rd. However my children are 9 & 6 so it feels like I am so out of the baby loop and like I’ve not done this for ages!

with Black Friday deals starting to kick off, I was wondering, if you’ve had a baby recently what were you best buy items, that have proven invaluable in the early months.

I feel like there are so many new things on the market, and as it’s my last baby I’m happy to have a little splurge on items that will make life easier.

let me know what your can’t live withouts are!

Biggest advice it to buy second hand as much as you can. You can get great quality prams, slings, next to me cribs for half the price.

LunaBear26 · 22/11/2023 10:21

Definitely a sling! I it has saved my life! And I 100% agree about second hand. Vinted is great for all sorts of stuff!

rebecca100 · 22/11/2023 10:27

Congratulations!! My baby is nearly 7 months and my 'musts' so far have been -

-Rockit (pram rocker)

  • Tutti Bambini next to me cot
  • sheepskin pram liner
-Tommee Tippee grobags (suitable from 7lb where a lot of others are 8lb+ so perfect for newborns)
  • MAM anti colic bottles (if you will have the need for bottles obviously 😊)
-pram organiser bag (so you can have the main bulky change bag underneath and a smaller bag neatly on handles for your essentials)
  • Tiny love play mat
  • Tommee Tippee sleepee Moses basket
  • MAM dummies and BIBS supreme dummies
  • travel changing mat from Amazon
-angelcare bath seat

I'm sure there are other things, but this is all I could think of. X

Definitely a sling I borrowed a stretchy wrap from a sling library for when baby was tiny, then we got an ergo baby. There's so many things we've done that we wouldn't have been able to do without a sling. (e.g. Little touristy places on holiday, nice country walks)

Also sleeping bags. I'm just using supermarket ones now but I liked the grosnugs when he was up to about 3 months. Again these were mainly off vinted/second hand from friends.

I was very much on a budget so didn't get anything particularly pricey and we seem to be getting on fine! The ergo baby is the most spendy thing we've bought and we probably could have got that second hand.

DuploTrain · 22/11/2023 10:28

I’m pregnant with my second and I’ve bought a lie flat car seat this time so if the baby is asleep in the car I can bring it in the house or put it on the pram and recline it flat and leave the baby asleep in it. (I’m sure someone will come along and tell me I’m not meant to but that’s okay).

AllABitNew · 22/11/2023 10:33

The one thing I would recommend to ANYONE is a RockIt Rocket. Absolutely amazing.

And if you are bottle feeding, a Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep Machine (2 is even better, one upstairs and one down). We got both of ours second hand for £50 combined

chatterhappy · 22/11/2023 10:34

Bottle maker , saves so much time , I personally have a Cybex flowers lie back car chair but think it's extra heavy but is much better for baby than a doona 😀

AllABitNew · 22/11/2023 10:34

If your budget affords it too, get a 360° carseat. So much easier and less banging of heads

scrunchie2 · 22/11/2023 10:41

My second is due soon but with a big gap too so following with interest!

I've bought the majority of things off marketplace or Vinted this time round and I've almost got addicted to getting everything as a bargain 😅 turned in to a right Scrooge!

HippeePrincess · 22/11/2023 10:43

Next to me crib. Ewan dream sheep
stretchy wrap sling
rockit rocket
snoozeshade
pram carrycot (used for all downstairs sleep)
swaddle grobags
I used the car seat on the chassis for popping in and out of the car on school runs whereas I never needed this with my others
car seat footmuff (winter born)

Washable baby wipes (we have coloured face ones in the kitchen now) and bum ones in bedroom and lounge for changes.

Boymum1005 · 22/11/2023 12:41

I have a 1 and 2.5 yo so pretty fresh and used lots of different things for both -

Moses basket so you can put baby down and tend to the other kids
Muslins
Vests
Sleepsuits in tiny,NB,0-3
Lay Flat car seat
Car seat adaptors for pram/Doona
Big muslins are useful to lay over car seats, crib, pram so they can be changed easily when they spit up
Prepare for cold and hot weather for a Spring baby, so pram fan AND pram suits (tuppance and crumble win for me)
If you’re FF a perfect prep machine
If BF a hands free pump (Elvie or Medela)
White noise machine - dreamegg and Ollie Owl both fab
Mamaroo bouncer is miles better than the babybjorn imo
Rockit Pram rocker
BabyBjorn carrier is the comfiest I used
snot sucker 😂

For hospital/you -
Disposable pants
Maternity pads
sanitary pads with aloe Vera and witch hazel
Nipple pads
Own pillow
Flapjacks
lucozade sport
water spray
Spritz for bits isn’t worth the money, keep a little jug handy and pour warm water instead

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 22/11/2023 12:43

Bouncer seat - basic really doesn't need bells and whistles.
Moses basket - we used tonnes for both our boys.
Travel system
Baby bath
Jumperoo for when they are a little older
Baby cage again for when they are a little bigger

The next2me was a waste of time and money

Boymum1005 · 22/11/2023 12:44

Also I couldn’t have couldn’t have coped without the Isofix attachment in the car, and swapped to a 360 spin seat at 12m for both.

stock up on size 0-1-2 nappies and wipes!

but also - don’t panic! As long as you have Amazon prime, you’ll be absolutely fine!!

Congratulations, I bet your older babies are especially excited!

Caffeineislife · 22/11/2023 12:51

Mine is 2.5 but currently planning another. One thing that was invaluable to me was a basic playmat and blanket for the car. Blanket for if it is cold in the car just pop on top of the car seat to keep the chill off whilst driving or waiting around during the school runs. Playmat or blanket for if you end up visiting anywhere or waiting around at activities for the older ones and little one wants to get out of the pram / car seat. Saves popping them on a dirty floor.

MotherOfDragon20 · 22/11/2023 12:52

Definitely a sling for the early days and a baby carrier for when they are a bit bigger. My DS is 7 months I use my Tula baby carrier every single day. Not just for transporting him but even just about the house. That witching hour at night when he’s tired but it’s too early for bed, just stick him in the carrier and tidy the house keeps him happy.

Agree with others look at vinted for second hand, I’ve bought (and sold) loads on there.

Senso21 · 22/11/2023 13:03

So glad I asked

getting lots of ideas and making myself a list

Thanks everyone - keep them coming!!

SouthLondonMum22 · 22/11/2023 13:07

Mine is about to be 1 in a few weeks.

perfect prep machine (2, one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom)
baby bjorn bouncer
jumperoo
mamaroo
mam bottles
grosnug
white noise machine
angelcare bath
playpen
activity gym
babyzen yoyo stroller

cruciverbalista · 22/11/2023 17:19

Only 5 weeks pp, Baby bjorn bouncer is a lifesaver, and Moses baskets (especially after a c-section as it's tough to bend too far).

AllABitNew · 24/11/2023 12:15

On the back of the RockIt Rocket, I'd suggest getting an extra couple of clips for it (if you have more than one pram, or like us, put one on the crib 😅) as they are a pita to put on/take off
