As the title says, what age was it when your DC "got" Christmas?

My DD is only 2 but when shes older I'd like to try and take her to lapland to see Santa. I'm just wondering ages just to I can start saving for it. I know it might not happen, but its the wishlist for now :)

Thank you

DD is 2y9m and she definitely gets it now

Last year when she was 22 months it was definitely more fun but she didn't quite get it I don't think. This year I think I might put a Christmas film on

I found that 2 they sort of get it, but it’s 3 when they really properly do and get into all the excitement and build up. Then DD figured out Santa isn’t real at 5, pretty randomly and not even close to Christmas by deciding that the tooth fairy sounded ridiculous and running with it. So that would have been a fairly short window to go if you’re hinging it all on Santa. Lapland looks really good for all the other stuff you can do there though, I’d really like to go when my youngest is old enough for skiing, snowmobile riding etc!

My daughter was 3 in August and she understands Christmas now. Last Christmas she understood that there were presents and this was good.
I think probably high street father Christmas will be on the cards next Christmas and if we were to do Lapland it would be some time after that. Especially if it would be a significant cost I would wait until their memory is more reliable so they will remember it through childhood. My earliest memory is 3y9m and that's the day my sister was born but most of my memories start around 5 or 6.

My son is 3 (4 in January) and while he kind of got it last year, this year he absolutely does understand it - he's been talking about Santa since August....

Some of my friends do Lapland UK, which I'm not keen on doing, but we are considering Lapland/Finland next year when he's a bit older again - maybe 5-6. We have talked about putting money aside for birthday/Christmas into a savings pot specifically for this (which also reduces the number of toys in the house - win win in my view).

If your DD is 2 and you aim for taking her to Lapland about 5, that's a good amount of time to save.

DD1 is a June birthday and last year (when she was 3.5) was probably the first year she understood it in the build up. The year before she understood she was getting presents on the day, but didn't have the excitement beforehand. We also took her to see Santa last year and she understood that.
