HELP! Is this HSP?

Took 4 year old to the doctor three weeks ago with this non-blanching bruise rash. Doctor ruled out petechiae and was unconcerned. Whilst there GP prescribed antibiotics for suspected tonsilitis (which hadn’t erupted into the usual symptoms).

I am going to phone GP again tomorrow morning as this is now going on 3 weeks and I am starting to get concerned. The rash definitely flares at nighttime - it is more faded in the morning. It is only on thighs and below knee area. Is it HSP or any other ideas?

Hi my son has just been diagnosed with This and I can say his spots definitely do not look like this. They did start out a little lighter like urs but progressed very quickly and are extremely dark purple

Hi did this get a diagnosis my son is currently going through the same they gave him antibiotics for tonsillitis but didn’t say much about the purple spots. I’m worrying. Please help me if you got a answer

When my DD had HSP, she also had very obviously swollen joints. Those spots look more like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (old bites or an old rash, maybe?) but hard to tell. I would roll a glass over the area and see if it blanches (goes white) or not. If the colour disappears from the spots, I would relax. If not, I would take your child to A&E just to check.
**I am also recently recovered from Sepsis, so overly familiar with the scary kinda rash.
My kid’s HSP looked more like this, btw

Thank you for your reply. That’s his spots? They tested him for leukaemia a month ago he has every symptom going but he didn’t have it. Im scared they’ve got it wrong. What’s the chances.

@worriedaboutrash The photo above is not my kid. She is all grown up and far too busy and important to be sick right now. That photo demonstrated what my DD’s rash looked like when she had it.
Did your little one have that rash a month ago? A month is too long for a rash like that, and I genuinely think you should avoid internet diagnoses like the plague. Does DS have other symptoms like a cold? Tenperature? Breathing normally, etc? Due to the colour of the mottly rash, I would be interested to know if they checked his oxygen sats. (I should add that I am a nurse albeit not a paediatric one…). Have you rolled a glass over the rash? Does it blanch and then come back? (Like when you pinch your fingernail between your thumb and your finger and let go, it goes white then pink when the blood rushes back - this is called “Blanching” or “Cap refill”). Can you do that and tell me if it comes back immediately or is white for a while pls….?
Is your DS lethargic? Eating? Drinking? Peeing and Pooping normally? Sore throat? Sore tummy? Light aversion? Sore/stiff neck? Headache? Grumpy/Happy?/Whingy/Apathetic? Tired/Sleepy? Active as per normal?
Have you noticed any behavioural changes? If so, you need to take your little one to your A&E with a list and demand to see a paediatrician (and if no answer after that, a physician or even maybe a rheumatologist.)

Can you message me please. And what did your daughter have? You posted photos of the spots above?

worriedaboutrash · 18/03/2024 17:15

Hi, in my child’s case the bloods all came back clear so the GP put it down to something viral. The spots persisted for about a month and then disappeared.
