Squint surgery

Hi all,

My son (6) is having surgery on an intermittent squint on Monday. He's having one muscle on each eye tightened.

I am so nervous, I wondered how distressed they are when they wake up? And if there are any tips or tricks people have to help us through the op and after! Inc things to bring to hospital.

thanks

Hello! My son was a lot younger when he had this surgery, he was 2. He was very upset when he woke up due to the anaesthetic but we had cuddles and he was fine after a short while. His eyes were really blood shot after and he was quite sleepy for a few hours. Once he had had a wee we was allowed to leave.

id take plenty of snacks and a drink so you have everything to hand. Maybe a tablet for the morning ? (He won’t be able to eat the morning of the surgery and they will take younger children down first).

By the time we left my son was fairly normal and was able to take the train home. We kept him off nursery for a few days and then it was back to normal.

its a few years later now so trying to remember anything that might be helpful but if you have any questions please let me know.
