10month old biting

My DD is 10 months and has always been very affectionate with big sloppy kisses but now she has teeth her kisses include bites. Its very difficult to know how to stop her as I dont want to push her away but it really hurts. I have tried saying 'No' when she does it but she just chuckles. Any ideas?

She think's you're being funny so she's going to carry on. When she does this, put her down on the floor and walk away. She's getting a reaction from you when she does this, if you ignore her she should stop. She's not trying to hurt you, she's getting a nice reaction.

When DD did this to me she got a firm NO and then was put down on the floor. It's really important not to yell out (I know, it hurts and its hard to do so).

Also don't forget to show her the proper way to have cuddles and praise her for doing that. With DD (16 months) she still is quite boisterous and we've taught her the concept of 'gently' (so she 'gently' strokes the cat, touches mummy's baby bump, gouges eyes etc.). We haven't quite cracked it yet and you do have to keep reinforcing it, but it is helping.

Totally agree with whomoved - DS went through this, say no firmly but not a "NO!!" (even if it kills), and set them down on the floor. He would still giglle and not care, but eventually it got through and he stopped.

My DS went through a stage like this too. Although so cute with kisses, you can't allow him to hurt or bite you or anyone else. So say no, bite, bad and give him no more reaction, look away. That should do the trick
