Where does your baby nap during the day?

Where did your newborn nap during the day? We have a bedside crib that will be used at night / daytime naps when baby is older but not sure what to use at the newborn stage during the day!

We used the pram carrycot mainly. Handy as if baby wouldn’t nap could walk him around streets or garden or just rock in living room

SgtJuneAckland · 19/11/2023 17:00

On me and nowhere else, for months......

NuffSaidSam · 19/11/2023 17:05

Moses basket. But pram carrycot is essentially the same thing (but better because of the walking/rocking opportunities).

Oh yes mine mainly napped on me or in sling anyway

wishIwasonholiday10 · 19/11/2023 17:33

On me mostly but also in her Moses basket which we move around the house and the pram bassinet. I initially didn’t think I’d need the Moses basket but she much preferred it over the larger bedside crib for the first 2 months.

witmum · 19/11/2023 17:37

On me or on me in a sling!

We bought a cheaper Moses from Asda that was not really used. I would use the pram if we had another.

Pollywoddles · 19/11/2023 17:39

On me usually!

Mamato29192 · 19/11/2023 17:41

Moses basket

LaVitesse2022 · 19/11/2023 17:48

Pram cot too, or on us. He sleeps on the cot overnight too, as the bedside cot was/still is too big a space for him and he doesn't like it.

calorcalorcalor · 19/11/2023 19:45

We used a dockatot which was great!

Superscientist · 19/11/2023 20:08

On me. She spent the first 5 months on me awake and asleep she got tonnes of tummy time and I watched 12 series of Grey's anatomy

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 19/11/2023 20:10

I get the feeling baby isn’t here yet?

The plan was a Moses basket. DS decided it would be on me, in a sling, or in the pram. He didn’t start napping in a cot until eight/nine months.

Joppi · 20/11/2023 14:33

On me or in the sling!

Oganesson118 · 20/11/2023 14:39

The plan was to have her Moses basket in the living room during the day. In practice she mostly napped on me, in the sling or in her pram until at 6 months when I started being able to put her down asleep without her waking up.

peonyjam · 20/11/2023 14:41

On me or in the sling. Apart from the very very early days the Moses basket basically gathered dust and served as an expensive storage bin.

Lizzieregina · 20/11/2023 14:42

All of mine in their Moses basket equivalent in the downstairs bedroom, until they moved to a cot, then in the cot.

Flo84 · 20/11/2023 14:42

I napped mine downstairs where it was light and noisy and then at night in his cot where it was dark and quiet

HAF1119 · 20/11/2023 15:04

A wide mix, on me, in the pram, in the Moses next to the bed while I had a nap (the favourite of mine) :)

msp2023 · 22/11/2023 11:05

Thank you all!!
So many options, it's so confusing!

We've already been gifted a bouncer suitable from newborn age so wondering if I still need a Moses basket or if the bouncer will be fine!

OP posts:
Tryingtohelp12 · 22/11/2023 11:11

People will tell you the bouncer is not safe for sleeping as they are a bit crunched up. For our first on me mostly. Second I needed my hands more so had a second next to me that I had downstairss for about 12 weeks and popped them on the floor If needed puttting down awake or upstairs for a nap. Or pram

DuploTrain · 22/11/2023 11:12

Mine would only sleep on me in the day unfortunately.

You could use the carrycot from the pram if your baby is the kind that lets you put them down.

DuploTrain · 22/11/2023 11:13

A new baby shouldn’t really be sleeping in a bouncer.. they need to lie flat on their backs (or be held).

wishIwasonholiday10 · 22/11/2023 11:18

The bouncer is useful for when they are awake and you need to do something or eat lunch etc and can be useful for getting them off to sleep but they still need somewhere with a flat surface to sleep (unless on you or in the sling)

Caspianberg · 22/11/2023 14:56

I used to put Ds in bouncer for a nap. The babybjorn is ergonomic sling like so suitable. I wouldn’t leave alone, but if he fell asleep on me feeding, I often scooted him into the bouncer. He would only every nap 20-30mins anyway at that age so it’s not like hours.

SnapdragonToadflax · 22/11/2023 15:07

I don't think a bouncer would be suitable for all the time, especially for a newborn - they should be flat on a fairly hard surface. They're very handy though, especially when baby is a bit more awake in a few months and you need to actually get stuff done.

We used the pram carrycot which was handy because we could just go out without moving him. But realistically, a tiny baby will want to sleep on you and if you get them down asleep into anything, it's a bloody miracle. Use whatever you like and fits in your house. A sling will allow you a bit more freedom.
