Breaking point

Hi,

so as it says on the tin really. Today, again, like many before and many to come. - I reached my limit. I was overstimulated, under slept, overworked and just totally exhausted. I put my daughter down and had a panic attack (which I dealt with very well may I add).

NB - the panic attack I feel is related to work and an important doctors appointment on Monday that I’ve blown out of proportion in my mind. But it all amounted to that.

Does anyone have similar experiences, or advice/insight?

yours,

a tired mum.
(Daughter is 18 months)

Ah you’re like me, hold it all together until it’s “safe” to have a small breakdown. Funny, I don’t do it consciously but I have noticed it’s when I’ve ticked off the massive list of everything that needs to be done before I can possibly give in to the unworkable amounts of stress.

Whats going on with work and the doc, op? Maybe talking about it will help put it into perspective?

Also kudos on the handling of the panic attack, not an easy feat.

@DelusionalBrilliance hey! Thank you so much for getting back to me straight away!!

so I have a birthmark that I feel needs to be looked at, just worried it could be something more worrying. And as for work, bloody hell; I’m a nurse and I’ve had some really poorly patients recently and the mental baggage is heavy.

but yes, it sounds like we are very alike. It’s just feels shitty and I know it’s normal to get burnt out but sometimes I just feel like a shit person/mum - does that make sense?

Gosh if you’re a shit mum then I think we all are! (Spoiler, you’re not!)

Parenting is hard at the best of times, and it sounds like you have some real stressors that will of course push you to the limits. The fact you’re still holding down a job, raising your family and being proactive about your health, that’s all amazing and you’re doing everything right!

Alas, sometimes doing it all right still doesn’t afford us a simple life does it? But I think the fact you naturally and unconsciously had your panic attack after you’d sorted out the little one says a lot, you’re a wonderful mum who puts her kids first, even when you’re on the brink. I really hope things start to ease up for you soon, you clearly have all the potential for a wonderful life, you just need things to calm down so you can take your foot off the pedal and breath x

@DelusionalBrilliance thank you. Really, really thank you. I don’t cry - I can count on one hand the times I’ve cried in recent years but you have made me feel as if I want to out of relief.

Thank you for your words - it’s incredible that a stranger on the internet can make you feel heard more than those in person sometimes.

Thank you.

Sending lots of positive energy your way, I absolutely know you’re going to be just fine ♥️ but don’t forget there’s usually someone around on mumsnet for you to vent to, don’t bottle it up xx
