3 month old won’t settle on her back

Our 3 month old was sleeping well with just 1-2 wakes ups a night. We think we have hit a sleep regression as suddenly she will not sleep in her cot or on her back, but will sleep fine if being held.

We have tried putting down awake but drowsy, however no amount of patting/rocking/shhing will get her to sleep.

We get her to sleep either by rocking her in our arms or breastfeeding her. However as soon as we move her to the cot she wakes up within 5 mins, normally by coughing or sneezing.

She doesn’t seem ill - no temp, no runny nose, no ongoing cough, she just seems really congested and unsettled on her back.
She won’t take a dummy.

We’re delirious with tiredness as we’ve gone from 5 hour+ stints of sleep to no sleep at all! Has anyone been through anything similar? Or have any advice on what we can try. I don’t want to co sleep and I’m not sure it would help anyway, as the problem seems to be when she’s on her back.

For us this was reflux and we ended up putting her on gaviscon, reflux babies are uncomfortable on their backs, keeping them upright for longer after feeds can help and also tilting the cot slightly at one end

If she seems congested in the cot, try propping up the head end on a couple of books so her head is elevated.

Reflux. Keep them upright for an hour after a feed.

I had two babies like that. Thankfully both slept long stretches from 3 months. If you can, keep persevering with the dummy.

This was reflux for us too and it got 10x worse around the 3 month mark, keeping her upright after feeds for a minimum of 30 minutes helped massively (although not easy if that's how she's falling asleep). The GP did suggest gaviscon but we switched to anti reflux milk instead and she was like a different baby. Raising the head of the cot and using a humidifier and nasal drops to help the congestion helped too.
