How many toys do your kids have?

Help me declutter! I have a just turned 3 year old and a 9 month old. I've been keeping a lot of stuff my eldest doesn't play with for my youngest but we just have toys everywhere! In both their bedrooms and lounge. I always worry I'll get rid of something and then wish I hadn't.

I have a 3 year old. Books he has lots, everything else he has just a couple
of each category and I donate if we get another. Ie maybe 4 puzzles, I recently took a smaller 12 piece puzzle to charity and swapped for a 24 piece. Don’t have space to keep both.

Anything your keeping for baby like small 2-4 piece puzzles, I would box up and move into loft/ on top of wardrobes and swap them back down when baby is a bit older ie next summer. No need to keep everything out now if no space

Honestly op just get rid. I have a full bin liner full of toys to charity when it was school hours and it has genuinely gone unnoticed and I felt amazing afterwards.

Don't bother hanging onto anything and always do a clear out before xmas and any birthdays. You have to be a real heartless bitch for it to be successful!

DD has loads and loads. Due to circumstances and temporarily living with relatives, we have had to put some in storage, the only things we have now is a doll, doll pram, bath and high chair, puzzles and a doctors kit alongside colouring pens. DD now plays a lot more then she used to, and we have found we now go out more such as for walks and to the park. It's made me realise we don't need anywhere near as many toys as she had and once we move back into our home i will be taking most of the toys to the charity shop

My tips to declutter toys.

  1. Gather anything broken
  2. Anything outgrown
  3. Anything disproportionately annoying
  4. Anything not liked

With outgrown toddler stuff/not liked... look at it honestly. Will your youngest play with it? Or is it discarded due to being rubbish/hard to use/prefer something similar? Just keep stuff you will use again.

I have 4yr old and 1 and a half year old my house is like a toy shop. Doesn’t help 4yr old was the only grandchild for dp’s side and they thought he would be the only one so were always buying toys etc for him. I thought i would keep them for youngest. I done a declutter a few weeks ago, black bag full for charity and gave some to my neighbour and baby group and threw out 2black bags. Still doesn’t seam like it made a dent lol

We have a 5yo and 1yo and we have loads. My eldest loves imaginative play and even plays with some of the 1yo's toys (but using them as objects in her imaginary games) and we are obviously hanging on to a lot of toys for the youngest to grow into. It definitely doesn't look minimalist here but we have the room for it so haven't done much decluttering. I'll get rid of it all once they are moody teens who spend all day staring at devices instead of playing with toys!
