16 month old not quite walking

Just looking for reassurance really!
My little boy is 16 months next week - never properly crawled just bum shuffled and has been cruising round the furniture for months. He will walk around all day long holding onto literally one of my fingers but the moment I even attempt to let go, he sits down. He wants to be on his feet, will chase around after the dog but just can’t or won’t do it on his own yet. He can bend down and pick things up and back to standing, and can stand playing for ages without holding on to anything.
Booked a call with the HV but is it still fairly normal to not be walking this late??

My son was a bum shuffler could cross a room like a rocket. He didn’t walk until 18 months and then he just got up and walked hardly any stumbling. I guess his legs were very strong from the bum shuffling. Like you had been worried about him but Dr told me to bring him back if he hadn’t walked by 18 months

I took my daughter to the baby clinic because she made no attempt to walk but only shuffled along on her bottom. The doctor howled with laughter when she saw my daughter zooming round the floor at high speed. She said she would walk when she couldn't reach something she wanted any other way. It was a yoghurt got her up on her feet in the end at around 18 months.

He’s 18months now and can walk unaided when he forgets he’s doing it!!! Will stand and walk across the room, or let go of my hand and almost run to get something and then realises, panics and plonks his bum on the floor. I’m certain there’s nothing wrong with him except being oddly risk averse to walking (yet fine with climbing, getting stuck under things and trying to clean the dog’s teeth)

@Werewolfnotswearwolf that’s quite reassuring to hear, thanks for updating! I reckon mine will be the same, she’s keen to climb stairs, over cushions, into the fireplace (it’s not in use) but the minute she realises she’s not holding my hands she sits on her bum. I’m sure we’ll get there eventually :)

@Weebumshuffler the last two days he’s just about cracked it and spent more time walking on his own than on his bum! Might be a coincidence because I think he was almost there but I got him some Clarks properly fitted shoes so maybe that’s made him feel a bit more secure and confident?

My youngest crawled but was more a watcher than a mover and didn’t walk till 17 months.

My sons, now 18 and 16, didn't walk till 19 and 17 months respectively. They were crawling in the morning and walking by the end of the day. Missed out the wobbly falling over stage completely. Hv said not to worry unless they were two and not walking.
