Hi

I currently work 2 nightshifts a week in a nursing.
The truth is is that the money is no good and I have been struggling financially on it.

I could really do with getting myself a fulltime day job.
I could do more hours on nights but I just find them so tiring I don,t think I would cope.
However I do not have anybody to get my ds aged 7 to and from school so had no choice but to resort to the 2 shifts in the nursing home.
I realise that to do a full time day job I would need a childminder to take ds to and from school and possibly have him for a time after school.
My dilemma is that I would never be around for any of his school plays, well done assemblys etc, and would feel so guilty about this.

Was just wondering how you many of you are in this situation and is there any way around it how are your children about it.

I take a day off work or ask to come in later for things like assemblies (I do have a very sympathetic employer though). You might be able to work fewer hours - say start at 10 and finish at 5 or 5.30 so you only need a childminder for a couple of hours a day. WOuld that be any good?

I don,t know what to do really.
If I got a fulltime job it would probably still be in the line of work I am in now.
That would mean early shifts starting at 8.00am or 7.30am.

I don,t really want to be away from my ds too much I know that sounds stupid.

not being away from your childen doessn't sound stupid.

My childen are 9, 7 and almost 4 and I know how you feel.

I am a self employed temp/maternity nanny so I can choose my working hours to fit in around my children.

Could you become a school nurse? A friend of mine does this in a private school amd the pay is resonable too
