One year old sleep - sorry

Morning all. Dc has just turned one. She hasn’t ever been a brilliant sleeper. She was always EBF and fed to sleep. Around 11 months we stopped bF as much (now just do one morning & evening feed) but crucially she’s no longer fed to sleep. Great! So we can cuddle her or Pat her bum to sleep quite easily. But she has started waking up every two hours! And I have no idea why? She can’t be hungry? Cold? Teething? It seems a very unusual amount of hours, ie it’s more than a sleep cycle. Anyone else experienced this? I’m just not sure if we ride it out, or if we need to be slightly firmer with her. When she wakes we’ll cuddle or Pat her back to sleep. I do offer one feed in the night which she does take, but doesn’t take a huge amount (and she isn’t fed to sleep I’ll cuddle her back to sleep).

Sorry appreciate the sleep topic is done to death but I’m at my whits end as I don’t understand why she is waking again so much when we thought we’d broken the feed / sleep association. Any support very much welcome.

Also she can self settle if she needs
to. We have seen this happen multiple times!!

Mine did the same at that age - it was tough going when I had thought we had really cracked sleep.

The (useless but maybe also comforting?) solution was that he just grew out of it. By the time he was about 14 / 15 months he was back to consistently sleeping through. Even now that he’s 3 he still goes through phases of waking in the night and needing helped back to sleep, but it’s much less common.

Hang in there, call in what support you can, take it in turns sharing the load. It will get better!

Ok thank you!! It’s the not understanding why she is waking that is throwing me. But your message is reassuring :)

My dd just turned 1 and she still feeds multiple times a day and night alongside her meals. She wakes probably 3-4 tines a night as well.

No advice! Just that's our 12 month old.

I think it's a developmental things as mine did that too and then suddenly she grew out of it.

mine all fed to sleep until they were over 2. i don't understand why this is such a massive issue. we didn't have sleep issues with any of them thankfully but i don't understand why people make it so difficult for themselves

Any previous history or reflux? My daughters reflux reduced significantly at 9-10 months and we dropped down to just one medication. At 13 months we were on the verge of getting rid of the last medication and she had a massive relapse and it has been a problem ever since. Her major symptom now is sleep disturbance

Is she teething? We’ve had so much teething and disrupted sleep since around 11-12 months. My Dd used to be a good sleeper until then which also corresponded to me going back to work unfortunately. She has also been having a bottle most nights despite stopping overnight feeds at around 6 months.

Thanks! Completely agree - I don’t think feeding to sleep is an issue at all!! We did this very happily until 11 months and me and baby then stopped for various reasons that aren’t relevant here (and she will no longer feed to sleep even if I wanted this). I just included the detail on my op so I didn’t get loads of replies saying “stop feeding to sleep.”

Yes I suppose it could be teething at this age! Sorry that your disrupted sleep coincided with your return to work (same here!!). Thanks for the message
