What’s going on with my 16 month old?

Almost overnight my 16 month old has become a different kid and has been like this for almost 2 weeks now. He’s having tantrums every few minutes, he asks to breastfeed every time we return home or after I’ve left the room for a bit. Even if it’s only been 10 mins (when his dad is with him). He’s stopped eating. He’s a fussy eater but even his safe foods aren’t going down. He had half a banana for dinner. He’s not poorly. Capol didn’t make a difference to his mood so I’m not sure if it’s teething. Is there a leap or anything around this age or is this just toddler life? FTM here.

Definitely sounds like teeth to me!

Try anbesol liquid to dab on to guns if you start to see them bulge. I found using that and then calpol or nurofen was really good. Sometimes of calpol doesn't work, nurofen will and vice versa

Otherwise he could have picked up a virus and it's just starting to affect him now.

Hello from the other side (18 months). This was us for about 4-6 weeks around that age, maybe closer to 17 months. It was horrific, probably the most depressing period so far. The meltdowns were epic, frequent (5+ times a day) and over fuck knows what most of the time. The only way I could settle DD was to breastfeed, and so I'd be feeding her what felt like more often than when she was a newborn just to keep/regain the peace. Pain relief made a negligible difference, little enough for me to determine it wasn't teeth that were the problem, not to mention she'd already cut 7/8 of them and the rest didn't cause anywhere near as much upset. Then suddenly overnight, during a bout of illness actually, she went back to her normal self. We've not had a single screaming, flailing, almost inconsolable tantrum since. I never really subscribed to the whole leap stuff but it did coincide timings wise with when leap 10 was due and it was as awful as they say a leap can be.

I know it always seems cliché in the thick of it but, this too shall pass. 💐
