Help! I feel like a terrible mother!!

My baby has just turned 4 months old. She sits on a bouncer swing at times whilst I get things done. I normally ALWAYS put her seatbelt on right away, as she tends to lean forward in general. Today, I put her on the bouncer in the kitchen. I thought I’d wash my hands in two seconds before I put the belt on, as I’d just changed her nappy. She was sat still at first, but as soon as I went to the sink, I saw she started to lean forward. I then ran to her catch her, as I could she she was falling, but it was so fast, she fell on the laminate floor and banged her head on the right side, as she fell on her right.

I picked her up right away, bur she was crying heavily and had gone all red. The side of her head where it banged, was also red. She cried for a good couple of minutes. I soothed her and she seemed fine after.

I am feeling soo soo awful and upset, in tears. I don’t know why I thought I could ever let her sit without a belt for even a second. Will she be okay? I can’t help feel so worried, what if I’ve caused damage?!?!? What do I do??? I feel nauseous from worrying.

Thank you

Was the bouncer on the floor? If so, I wouldn't worry. Mine were always face planting at that age when learning to sit up.

Oh bless you! You are not a bad mother at all, literally every mother in existence will be able to tell you of a time their baby rolled off furniture/fell out of pram or high chair etc and is absolutely fine! Be kind to yourself.

Crying immediately is a good sign, it was probably more the shock of it than anything. General rule is if the distance to the ground is more than 3 feet it is best to get them checked out medically, but less than that usually is fine

A bump is also a good sign, better it swells outwards than inwards. Their heads are very well protected

If it was on the floor when she fell out of it I wouldn't worry. If it was on a table or worktop, take her to be checked at A&E (and don't put it up there again).

Don't give yourself a hard time, these things happen in a second and almost everyone with a baby has at least one of these stories!

Yes, the bouncer was on the floor,
luckily.
Thank you
