At what age did you stop carrying spare clothes for your baby/toddler?

I don't carry spare clothes for my 3yo although can't remember when I stopped. Doesn't mean I don't need them though occasionally - was caught out with a wee incident at soft play recently!

UnravellingTheWorld · 15/11/2023 19:06

Tbh I have needed spare clothes for him twice in his life. Saying that, I definitely still bring them at 2.25 (and have recently added a 2nd set due to potty training)

I have a bag in the boot of my car with a couple of thin beach towels, a full change of clothes for both kids and a pack of wipes in it. My kids are 9 and 6.

Probably around 3.5 depending on the length of day, type of activity, how far from home etc

DyslexicPoster · 15/11/2023 19:12

About 4 in the car. I just had a set that was close to being outgrown in the car so it was no big deal if if it was never needed. My pfb was always being sick and then ds2 was always wetting himself.

If they was non sicky or peeing constantly I'd say 3. But I found a light weight pair of joggers or leggings abd a thin tshirtthat wasn't much to roll up into my bag. Buying a new outfit if your out for the day was nt ideal

Big day out with strong likelihood of getting wet I will carry a spare pair of leggings/socks/pants. Normally I keep a spare outfit for each child in the car. Age 7 and 4.

bakewellbride · 15/11/2023 19:13

We stopped bothering for a full day out at 5 for ds. Can't remember what age we stopped for just a supermarket / park trip or whatever maybe 3.

avocadotofu · 15/11/2023 19:18

I still have a few spare clothes with me when I go out with DS5 because he has a tendency to play with water and get wet e,g. jumping in puddles.

I carry spare knickers, leggings and socks for my 6 year old

I stopped with DC1 when she was 4, as we needed to bring spare clothes for DC2 then. No car so we have to carry everything in a rucksack. In the summer I always bring a swimsuit as we've done a lot of splash parks, and waterproof trousers on wet days.

Dc's age gap is nearly 4 years, but DC1 has worn DC2's spare clothes on 2 occasions (DC2's spare clothes are a half size bigger than her age, and DC1 wore trousers like cropped trousers/t shirt like a tight fit top.). This was for getting wet in a paddling pool/getting muddy in a park. She hasn't had a wee accident for years.

My daughter is 3 and we still carry 3 changes of spare clothes. She has toddler diarrhoea and food allergies so at times struggles with getting to the toilet in time. We still get the odd wet accident if she falls asleep in the car. I think I will carry a spare set of clothes in the car until she's about 7 after she had a stomach bug last week and throwing up in the car a 30 minute drive from home. I was very grateful to have a change of clothes and a bag of cloth wipes to clean her up at the roadside.
We use her change bag at the moment once a week to once a fortnight so will keep that up for a while yet and once we stop carrying a changing bag I will keep an emergency set of clothes in the cars for any mishap or illness

Depends where we are going, I don't always take stuff (even nappies) for my 2yo if its only for an hour and within walking distance. Tbh there's an Asda with clothes where we live if i ever got super super desperate. She once came home in a tshirt as a pair of trousers from messy play haha

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 27/07/2024 23:03

I have spare socks, pants, t-shirt and a pair of shorts/leggings in the car depending on season for ds, he's been reliably toilet trained since he was two but has a habit of jumping in puddles, getting food all over himself, deciding on a whim he wants to play in the splash fountains or we were often end up on the beach, crabbing etc. Sometimes he's too filthy to put back in the car so it's good to have a spare.
He's five

Moveoverdarlin · 27/07/2024 23:05

About 2 years, maybe younger.

frenchnoodle · 27/07/2024 23:16

I have spear clothes in the car for my 8 and 6 year old. General days out can end up with them both filthy.
